Progs have a hatred of Japan and Japanese people. They're referred to as "Schrodinger's whites" for a reason.
They are not white, but they do well in the west, especially in areas progs claim POCs are gatekept from like business and tech. Progs can't really play the victim card for them either as they attacked America during World War 2, and there's the Rape of Nanjing.
I find progtards too stupid to realize that humankind has the potential to be miserable, awful, and terrifying bastards to everyone and each other, and sometimes it's the only fucking way to go when it comes to survival. As someone said, the worst kind of evil are those who don't realize they are. Progtards are the shitheels C.S. Lewis warned about. There are others who have popped up prior in history, but progtards are just the newest flavor.
Even if Japanese Americans try to play the victim card (or the white leftists do it on their behalf), the Korean American progressives will see this as encroaching in their territory and taking attention away from their true deserved victim status.
Japanese Americans and even the Japanese have a lot more shit about America than World War II. They have that Gunboat Diplomacy incident everyone's remembering and how the first Japanese American immigration community was swindled and left to scatter out in inland empire California. As for Korea, they're not so squeaky clean either. They've been trying to invade Japan since the hundreds AD and they tried to use the Mongol occupation as a front in the 13th Century. The only reason they get a pass is because Korea has been the United States' yes men and deep down in most of America (hahaha don't deny it) many hate Japan because "how dare they touch American soil with the intent to *gasp* invade!" and don't know that they (kinda) started it (I am not defending Unit 731 and all of that shit, meth, not even once.)
George Takei really likes to trot out the internment camps thing (which he's too stupid to realize that his own party was largely responsible for it) whenever he's kvetching about immigrants DESERVING to be here, because reasons.

Luckily they managed to largely pull out of their tailspin over the last decade, but at the time so much of Japan's output was joyless trash that seemed to deliberately allow the player as little freedom and agency as humanly possible.

I'm honestly more angry that I came from a generation where everyone (at least I knew) back in high school wanted to make their own video games and comics/manga and anime and shit and then pussied out when the Great Recession hit. I've mostly gotten over this, but fuck me, would it have been that much of a fucking bother to try and keep your dreams alive even when the economy is (still) in the shitter? Then everyone whined when their entertainment turned to another generation when they all balled up in the corner and cried like a bunch of fucking kids. The world changes, but I can't stand fucking morons who are sometimes a part of the cause of their own misery and never own up to it.
I honestly hated the open world fake freedom horseshit, especially when GTA San Andreas got everyone and their mom wanting to put in open world padding shit thinking that was the key to the future. I also hated how Inafune was a protowoke shilling out for "superior murican games" and couldn't back the money where his mouth was and his reputation got raped harder than a roofied bitch on prom night. At least with .hack and Xenosaga, they were trying to give us an experience. Anyone who preached Phil Fish's horseshit wanted that sweet military funding money they were pouring into anything that would help them with the "War on Terror".
I mean occasionally they will trot out Japanese internment camps and the fact that the people we sent there lost their homes and businesses for which they were never compensated, but they don't tend to bang on about it like other people we've wronged perhaps because despite losing everything and suffering a few decades of discrimination they recovered just fine without our help. really makes you think about that thing that happened 200 years ago and they still claim they need reparations
Most Japanese who immigrated outside of Japan back then did so because of a civil war, and either lost everything or finally saw the chance to get out of the bottom rung from the prior caste system. Back to back civil wars that ranged for at least a span of about 200 years before the next 264-ish years of peace also was still fresh in their minds, and the fact that the warrior caste could cut you down sometimes out of their own spite/frustration for no reason is kind of nothing to them. Fires, earthquakes, and disease also were rather prominent in Japan despite historic comparisons and advancement. Then we get into Feudal Japanese sumptuary laws and taxes.... yeah, anyone who survived that time as a once peasant back out in the old country with all of that shit, American prosecution was kind of nothing to them.
I think the wheels are already turning to Blacken Japan hard in the coming years, just like the West. They really can't even let White people's wakanda exist. I hope the nips fight against it, but it's hard to fight back when a Banana Empire has nuclear carriers occupying your shores - and their presence has, by design, kept you weak as well so you can't defend yourselves against a rising China.
I remember the 2000s and every anime fan was coming out of the woodwork and was wanting to go to Japan. Japan back then was like NYC or LA to actors and models- the nerds and geeks got their slice of the pie when this time came around. Also, American self-disparaging back in the day wasn't as stupidly self destructive as it is now. Criticisms back then about the States were rather legit. Crime, nepotism and corruption with upper middle class dipshits, every poser wanting to be a wigger, government encroachment on civil rights for the sake of "freedom", the potentiality of endless war and government horseshit, letting stupid, inept, and/or greedy people in charge than anyone better qualified; when you have all of that shit looking like a dystopian fucking nightmare on your homeland, Japan looks like a fucking paradise and land of milk and honey in comparison.
Sadly, some people took this shit too far and whipped themselves fucking silly to where they're the new bosses now (or have always held fucky perspectives and mentalities). Then we have wojaks/troons out in Japan spreading their horseshit and are secretly happy that they are worshipped in Japan. Whatever.
