Sony hate thread

that was mainly abolished for gameplay reasons, all it lead to was someone sitting at spawn in a tank and turning the map 2d.
same thing in bf4 where the first thing players do is level the skyscraper on shanghai.
I think all maps should be static and symmetrical in multiplayer.

In single player, I want my goddamn destructive sandbox and it's a fucking travesty that a game hasn't been made with destruction. I could level an entire city in Syndicate wars (1996) in 4 player co-op!

Sony's new Japanese executives reported that Bungie is okay, but the leadership is incompetent. Makes sense if you think about it. When all the idiots start to reach the top positions in Western studios, they truly go downhill. Just look at how quickly Arkane went to shit after Dinga Bakaba was put in charge.

Naughty Dog used to deliver games on time with a realistic budget and they were successful before Cuckmann took over as president. The best way to repair these studios is by replacing the leadership with people who know what they're doing.

The problem is that pozzed leadership brings in fellow true believers and pushes out anyone who wants to make good games rather than progressive social statements. You usually can't just cut off the head - you have to burn the whole body to get rid of the infection.

And shit like Last of Us are the reasons of Naughty Dog's decay

Funny thing is I can't tell if that's a racist joke or his real name.

Just fire those retards lol.
Company culture needs to change or it won't matter long-term. They need to be overtly anti-woke or the infection will come back.

Nah they just need to be professional, or at least forced to act like professionals.
Can't. They've already practiced enough entryism that it's probably half the team at that point. That's the entire point of entryism to create a system that flushing them out collapses the institution or company so it never happens.
You are all acting like it's impossible to fire a few marxist idiots who aren't pulling their weight anyway. The only reason they haven't been fired from the gaming industry is because of HR departments and marxist employers.

In case anyone is considering buying Horizon Forbidden West now it's on PC, I made the mistake of finishing it on PS5. Forbidden West is absurdly dumb and doubles down on modern politics. It's boring, hideous, and basically a pile of shit. Famously they made Aloy even uglier in the sequel, but this also applies for all characters and tribes in the game. No attempt is made to have the setting feel even remotely plausible.

In Zero Dawn the story was about robots who want to destroy the world. In Forbidden West the story is about a middle aged lesbian white woman who loved the woman Aloy was originally cloned from. In the end she becomes hysterical and Aloy has to put her down. That's literally the final boss, a BPD lesbian who wants to kidnap Aloy into space so she can keep her in a sex dungeon while the world is destroyed by robots. If Aloy was a male character it'd be maybe the funniest AAA game ever. Forbidden West is similar to Spiderman 2 in how the first entry was inoffensive mass entertainment, whereas the sequel goes out of its way to offend and disgust the players. Hilariously like Spiderman 2 the budget for Forbidden West was more than 4x higher than Zero Dawn, yet you'd be hard pressed to see any of that money on screen. It's also selling worse than Zero Dawn, which is well deserved.

Where in the hell does all that money go? The previous game already exists and there's no way they rebuilt everything from scratch.
  • $200,000 -> One programmer who knows what he's doing
  • $2,000,000 -> Team of diversity hire programmers who end up doing 1/10th the guy above each
  • $40,000,000 -> Individually modeled peach fuzz hair follicles on face of each character
  • $30,000 -> Gameplay designers
  • $18,000,000 -> GNAA consultancy
  • $400,000,000 -> marketing

They spend it all writing their engine that only they and Kojima use.

For example, they wrote an entire brand new physics engine from scratch instead of using havok or something, then released it as open source under MIT, which is great for everyone but they are just shitting away their game budget doing so.

I figured it was something like this. I remember hearing that Insomniac remade every asset from scratch or whatever. Good for future proofing, terrible for the budget.

A bit more tech sperging about Decima. Most of their work seems to be focused on the actual engine development instead of making a game. They release a ton of stuff every year for GDC and Siggraph, their volumetric clouds are now used in Unreal and pretty much every volumetric implementation in in-house engines (Valve used it for the CS2 smoke grenades), and even in offline renderers with them being added to Houdini recently

They go completely nuts with the tech stuff, for foliage rendering in Forbidden West they implemented a vis-buffer software renderer (essentially Unreal Engine's Nanite minus the automatic LODs, for the non technically inclined) just so that they could have more bushes and shrubs, which are scattered through the world procedurally running off their own GPU instancing system. The Horizon games are just tech demos for their engine, nothing more. But it being a tech demo makes no sense when they aren't even licensing the engine out, other Sony studios don't even use it, its literally just them and Kojima. Death Stranding (and the upcoming DS2) are probably better examples of their engine being used for a game than the glorified tech demo of the Horizon games.

Oh yeah, they also make the entire game's world in Houdini with procedural tools, the whole game is procedurally generated, which adds to its tech demo feel.

Add 50 million into the black hole of "accessability".

They go completely nuts with the tech stuff,
That explains a lot. They're running adult day care for engine programmers. 5 years dev time used to be insane, but now it's the norm because they have to spend the first 2-3 years just making the tech for the next title. I finished Yakuza 8 and FF7 Rebirth back to back, and they're both 70+ hour games with absurd amounts of content. Their clouds look like ass compared to Forbidden West, and don't even start with the quality difference in vegetation. But as a game Forbidden West is a total waste of human life energy on the part of everyone involved. I hope their engine work goes to good use in Death Stranding 2, otherwise they might as well kill themselves.

Who would have thought that a remake that's not really a remake that got split up into multiple games and will ultimately take 11+ years to make would prove to be unpopular?
Apparently Squeenix thought different. That splitting up into multiple games is the biggest bullshit next to the combat system. And new story. It looked pretty, doe.

I'm 100+ hours in in Y8 and not even close to finishing it, what the fuck am i doing with my life? Didn't even play Dondoko Island because i already found the mandatory introduction to be brutally unfun. At the beginning of Ch.13 and i am so burnt out on it that i haven't touched it in a month's time. The content is just too much and largely not as good as in Y7 and other games in the series preceding it.

I expect Sony to buy Arrowhead and drive them into the dirt. Looking in my crystal ball here's what I predict for Sonys studios

Naughty ZOG
-Last Of Us 3 after their superhero IP gets cancelled
-Neil doubles down but the project goes into tailspin and is either cancelled or flops

Media Molecule
-gets shut down 5 years into development of another guaranteed flop, devs probably shit talk modern Sony leadership after getting the boot

VR Studios
-shuttered

Guerilla
-Makes another Horizon with further diminishing returns
-Attempt to bring back SOCOM/Killzone/Resistance fails spectacularly

Bend
-Shuttered

Santa Monica
-New IP is cancelled and they're made to continue puppeteering Kratos' corpse as has happened multiple times already

Suckerpunch
- GoT 2 releases to less fanfare than the first

Insomniac
-Continues pumping out capeshit with no real impact or surprise

Bungie
-Continues being an embarrassment to their legacy like they have for the last decade

No Name Studios (Firewalk, Haven, etc)
-release flops nobody cares about

pretty much confirmed by that leak a few months back, lol
