I'm attempting to be as non-incendiary as possible and I hope you guys and girls can accept this in good faith.

You need to fundamentally understand that this is not a normal website. The mental, social, physical and financial cost of maintaining the site is beyond any other. Unlike other forums where the relationship is that of a public square and police officers, this is Null's house. We are all guests here. The expectation that he should enjoy or simply tolerate people shit-talking him, impugning his integrity, attacking his character and spreading lies about him on the site he sacrifices to maintain is fundamentally misguided. One of his core criteria for keeping the site up is that he's able to enjoy the website. Nobody wants guests that make them hate being in their house.

He also does not like scuffles and fights in his house, because he and his few active moderators have to break them up and listen to both the winner and loser cry about it requesting some kind of remedy. Consistently making slapfight threads, call-out threads, hate threads etc is not going to please the house owner. You are creating work for him. Running this forum is not a fun thing he does when he feels like it, it's his job and may very well be his legacy. He's also annoyed by low-quality, unfunny high volume activity in his house - nobody wants some retard sitting on the couch exclaiming unfunny non sequiturs when something else is being discussed.

You also need to understand we are not faceless atoms. This isn't Twitter or a court of law, you are not an atom, you are all recognizable and have behaviors and patterns that are seen and often felt. These factors make the difference in how heavy handed action against you may be.

If you really internalize all of this most of the moderator action becomes clear.

i see where you're coming from with the house metaphor and i agree with pretty much everything you are saying but a website like this is a little pointless if there's only one user, and if you're going to deal with other human beings you're going to have to be realistic about, well, dealing with flawed human beings, who see things differently than you do, and have different interests, no matter how skilled you are with pruning and curating

for the most part i find moderator activity here to be surprisingly even handed, but it's a waste of energy to try and make a square peg fit in a round hole, and sometimes you can achieve results opposite of what you want by trying to foster a particular userbase, feedback requires a sender and a recipient, and both interpret data, and you are correct, we are not atomized, we have agency, and self awareness

2. The odd circumstances that blobby was banned for, I’ve been trying to get a straight answer but no one would answer me and not even blobby knows why she was banned. I think there’s some factors at play that I don’t want to spell out but it can be detrimental for the site in the future, especially in decisions making.

But it’s starting to really feel like the ending of Chinatown if you ever seen the movie.

I agree. I have disagreed with Null's actions more than a few times. I'm just aiming to provide some insight into why things are the way they are.

The same thing that allows the site to stay up is what leads to this. Null is extremely stubborn and has incredible determination. The kind of person that does things like create his own cloudflare isn't going to let go of his vision.

I didn't want to litigate individual cases because we all have incomplete information, but let's do it my friend.

1. SIGSEGV's exile was long off that single post.He was a productive user before that. After some time he asked if he could return, and was allowed to. Even permanent bans aren't permanent if you wait and ask nicely. Indefinite is a better description. Socking is a hard rule on the forum. BBL had 5 accounts and was using them to subvert restrictions placed on his main account. They were not just innocent fun in addition to being rule-breaking. There's nothing stopping BBL from asking in a few months to be reinstated. He however would have a lower success rate than most, because he's viewed as an over sexualized non-productive unfunny user by most of the people here. Despite me liking him, that's the reality.

2. I didn't want to speak ill of Blobby. She has for the past few months been annoying Null in particular. Posting about being a back seat moderator, calling him "retard admin", fostering negativity towards him by acting like he's the Boogeyman, being involved in notable slapfights and generally being an annoying very attention seeking high-volume user. This is not a court of law, it is very likely she was banned for being a bad guest. I think I have an idea of what the things you want to spell out are, and I can say probably, but not for the motivations that are commonly repeated.

I don't really know the context of your moderator actions first hand so it's hard to comment. When you talk to the old-timers, some will tell you that threads had a much lower noise to signal ratio back in the day. That these days a lolcow thread is 80% low effort jokes and repeated takes vs actual meaningful information or discussion of the cow. This happens even more when a thread is featured. Inevitably some comments are deemed so banal, unfunny or non-contributory that they are removed for "shitting up the thread". Q&A is a designated fun-posting board. The Lolcow boards are taken much more seriously and "noise" normally has to be of a certain quality to stay up. You're also new, which means very little courtesy and looking-the-other-way will be afforded to you.

I fully agree that the moderator messages are not helpful and they are definitely ineffective.
