Very angry mechanical engineer made something copy-pasta worthy. The context is that Roblox banned wine, so whatever this vinegar is will have to be discontinued. Someone suspected this was related to their Byfron anti-cheat which might be easier to reverse-engineer, which caused this gem.
Unfortunately they DFE'd really fast, didn't have time to check other comments they might have made

There is no such this as "reverse" "engineer". That is the stupidest and most pathetic lie ever. Quit using the amazing word "Engineering"/"Engineer"... Stop being disrespectful & insulting to Engineering. You know nothing about what Engineering entails.
Engineering means designing, building and producing real mechanical systems, like turbojets and vehicular engines. It has nothing to do with clowns sitting behind a keyboard and decoding/programming/deciphering etc. Software dev is easy and for kids and young teens. And it has absolutely nothing to do with a serious and real subject like Engineering (Mechanical Engineering is the ONLY Engineering). So quit being wannabes. Ya'll will never even come close to being an engineer. Quit making false claims against engineering you. And stop being disrespectful to real engineers (Mechanical Engineering is the ONLY Engineering, PERIOD).

Mechanical engineering is just applied kinetics and some material science regarding their properties under stress. Unless you are designing the basic parts, your work is just plugging numbers into long formulas or putting shit into Ansys. Quoting a based phsyics proffessor that I once met: "Statics is just this one equation [sum of momentum = zero]. And the folks at mechanical engineering make it into a year long lecture subject"

In this xz backdoor great care was taken so that it only triggers in certain conditions. A lot of work has been put to make it promiscous and they fucked it up so bad SSH authentication started to lag. Hats off to the autist who followed the lead to a backdoored source package. :semperfidelis:

Quote @Mikoyan

Also 'this Jia Tan person was optimizing code for LoongArch so I don't think they have to worry about being anywhere near the US', my sides.
context: LoongArch was the CCP funded research into making China independent from the West in terms of computing power production. They ended up making a few low tier personal computers (Stallman endorsed the laptop version and if I am right used it for a while). I think it died soon after the chinks realized they can just copy Intel x86 CPUs which does not require rewriting everything for MIPS.

nobody would actually run sid in production....right?
I could swear I used sid temporarily, to try to update something, but a glance at my apt.sources file tells me I disabled it anyway, and this was months ago at that. I haven't tried to update the system in months, and it failed last time anyway. My version of xz-utils is 5.4.0 or something. All of this was on my rented server; my personal computers haven't been updated in at least half a decade.

Yeah, and even then they were just copying MIPS.

That would be the Lemote YeeLoong. I own one. It's alright, but I started having fan issues with it I can't resolve. Only OpenBSD ever worked worth a fuck on it.

I believe they've still continued with the architecture. I seem to recall x86 emulation moreso than replacement. They actually bought a MIPS license.

Finally, my policy of not upgrading more than twice a decade bears fruit.
My Gentoo build from 2011 is thankfully immune!

If being on this board has taught you anything, it should be that there is an inexhaustible number of retards in the world, my friend.

He's clearly autistic as fuck and retarded on top of that. First he's capitalizing "engineering" which is not a proper noun, and second, who the fuck does he think came up with the term? Engineers. Who does it? Engineers. Does he think some rando can just take a printed circuit board and reverse-engineer it and make something that does the same thing?

Dumb, but genuine, question:
if i use my debian as a low level torrent/web browsing/ media center and im not updating or ssh'ing or coding, does this affect me in any real way? I dont even play steam games (the 2 that work for me).

He’s trying to say that Engineer is a licensed term like lawyer. There’s a fuckcars cow in trouble over it.

But he’s autistic as fuck. It’s like complaining about the term “rules lawyering” because the person playing the game with you hasn’t passed the Bar.

Software dev is easy and for kids and young teens.
No one who hasn't ever had to throw themselves on the mercy of Stack Overflow or other such sites has done much writing programs

(And I'm the type of guy who can figure out what to do from others' threads virtually all of the time; still there have been exceptions)

StackOverflow is fine for underdocumented shit, and nothing else. No one who can't program without access to the Internet is a true hacker.
I beg to differ and part of that has to do with the wider Stack Exchange community. I've asked physics and chemistry questions that got hugely upboated—even more so than in the software realm—because others were looking for the same answers. I've also asked software questions that ended up upboated a lot because, again, others were looking for similar answers. These are not websites that tolerate dummies. And even if you are not a dummy and have put in the initial effort, sometimes they will still have a bug up their ass for daring to ask questions or do things like mention how the conditions of some toy probability problem are not actually physically realistic, as if that would shed any light on the probability problem itself. And if anyone claims they can proficiently code like other coders but with zero Internet access and their name isn't "Terry A. Davis" (and frankly even he had the Internet) I need to see solid evidence of that.
