Samuel Long aka internet musician Sophie died after falling off a roof in Jan 2021. Shortly after, his girlfriend went on a rant on twitter saying that while he'd started off using the Sophie name as an artistic persona, he'd had to invent the matching trans identity and go public after getting called out by Grimes in 2015 in an interview, and that he should be recognised for who he really was in death. Then the tweets were deleted and she resurfaced back on board with the narrative; I've always assumed she was paid off by Grimes, as Grimes had to support Sophie's career after Sophie came out as mtf, and apparently tried to get Sophie a grammy after death, as well.

“It’s really fucked up to call yourself SOPHIE and pretend you’re a girl when you’re a male producer [and] there are so few female producers…I think it’s really good music. I probably shouldn’t have said that.”

that seems hard to believe. why would he have gone to such lengths to shield himself from a minor criticism from someone with far less production chops than himself. i don't believe he was a very 'genuine' troon (ie. gay degenerate) either- more like a trend chaser who knew he would attract a wider audience and could use it as his aesthetic. sure would be funny if he became a tranny and fourty one'd out of spite though.

I found this in an A&N thread, but it's not what I'm talking about, I remember seeing a twitter rant by the most recent ex (cis) girlfriend, Evita Manji.

Apparently Manji has also managed to make some press out of some inspiring last words from Sophie post-fall ('I love you' 'don't give up' etc etc) so she seems like a bit of a grifter.

Sorry, have to double-post. Sophie was more behind the scenes as a producer, most people don't know producers - I had heard of Grimes before I ever heard of Sophie, I think she was more publicly famous if less established.

i guess the more i think about it the more plausible it seems that immunity from criticism may have been a factor in his deciding to adopt the troon persona and i could believe those tweets if they surfaced.
what i'd really like to know if if he really 'fell off a roof'

the rant didn't really mention it and I've honestly never seen anything from anyone connected to Sophie that suggests otherwise - you'd assume it would come out with the autopsy. So I think he really might have. Accidents can happen.

From what I remember the troon that posted that was their most recent ex and the one that did a flip was getting a little backlash because of it.

Though by the time it made A&N all accounts were privated so lots of hearsay around.

I remember when GRIMES said this and then was forced to walk it back because SOPHIE came out. Anyways I don’t have the twitter rant but I never once thought that he fell during a full moon rooftop admiration session or whatever the fuck his girlfriend said
