Wild Life's situation is one of the best clustefucks i've seen: a glorified sex gallery simulator which had a buggy gameplay since forever.

Honestly I think the real money would be in making those shitty HTML real porn games and if you hit it big start milking the fuck out of it, then make a new identity and patreon and just start another project to put that extra time into. Rinse repeat * 5. The engine is dogshit simple, they literally just use images, gifs, and videos of real porn rather than time intensive art or rendering, and some of them have horrifically slow releases and have been going for years making a couple k a month.

You would still have to find and curate the real porn. That said, the text could probably be easily AI generated.
 
Out of sheer curiosity is there any porn game that is legit a really good game gameplay wise?

It's not a genre I hold interest in but in legitimately curious if there is a porn "age of empires" quality game I'm missing

Not exactly what you want, but there's a "game" called Operation Lovecraft: Fallen Doll that isn't worth looking into. It was meant to be sexy xcom with Cthulhu stuff. Unfortunately, the game is vaporware. Another victim of the Patreon Yadere Simulator money pit where the dev collects monthly donations, makes few meaningful updates, and spends their time blocking criticism and questions on Discord.

Sort of, but no.

There are mods of course, if you consider Bethesda games good. There are a few games considered classics (the Rance series, True Love 95, Corruption of Champions, Changed) and some games that I hear good things about.

There are no games that are AAA in terms of production, those that threaten to do so don't stick the landing. Subverse was one. It was Mass Effect with sex scene. It had a sudden surge of popularity similar to Palworld or Helldivers, it raised a bunch of money, they put out a demo, and then the game seemed to vanish after that. According to Kiwis (Malagor, but I can't @ him for some reason), the devs got involved in some crypto nonsense and the game petered out. There was some game set in hell I forget the name of that was hyped, but on release it was a mediocre steal game with demon titties.


Because of your post, I decided to look at steam and see what the top selling/rated porn games were. There was a bunch of weird stuff at the top like GTA and The Long Drive (not porn games) and then a whole bunch of games I've never heard of.

There were the gorepete games from over a decade ago. They were these sidescrolling flash games which got published on New grounds with the Sakyubasu games being a hack n slash and Dustys Castle being more of a walking sim kind of deal with a bunch of endings.
Edit: actually come to think of it, Dustys castle was more of a genuine old-school adventure game. Either way, it's basically a glorified porno gallery.

Thanks for the responses wouldn't be something I would of known otherwise. It's one of those things I was wondering about. Usually I find indie games more appealing and wondered if any snuck under my radar.

But yeah, old PC-98 games were pretty much all sprited for the time, cause flat character graphics couldn't work with the system. It gives it that ageless feel. The Yu-no remake makes this quite apparent.

The cross section of skilled game dev and adult game dev is very small. As has been said before, a porn game that leans on the game side like Last Sov or Black Souls will be a better game that you'll play and ignore the porn. If it leans on the porn like Subverse or renpy trash then gameplay gets in the way.
I have found things of quality. Marionette, Hot Spring Hero, Harem Trigger. But nothing that I would consider "genre breaking."

I have noticed a rise in "co-habitation" games. The cycle of spending time with a heroine and deepening a bond,a GF experience essentially. I think this could be only half of an experience however. Instead of going to work and rushing home to be with GF, you could go on an adventure and slowly build towards something. Hot Springs is kinda like that but I don't think there's a game out there that takes advantage of a full RPG loop with sex thrown in. That would be a genre break.

there are some games that have solid gameplay elements, like Karryn's Prison (rpg sex battle, building management), Imperial Gatekeeper (groping simulator), Cloud Meadow (breeding simulator), Future Fragments (platforming), and Pure Onyx (beat 'em up)

if you're talking about games where the gameplay is so good it would be a solid game on its own without the porn, basically no. 95% of adult games are visual novels or RPGM games, 4% are sex simulators, and the remaining 1% are passion projects that fail most of the time because making just a regular game is hard enough without the distraction of making it with only one hand
