I agree it's totally not worth dying for, but I'm not sure how "easy" it is to beat a fake sexual misconduct allegation, particularly in the court of public opinion.
I know about the Duke lacrosse team case and the recent ruling that a student at Yale can now sue his accuser for defamation after a false rape allegation, but both of those cases involved an actual crime (rape) and a court case that presented evidence for or against the charges. They also took many years and a lot of money to finish.

What Ed Piskor said to Molly Dwyer wasn't criminal and can't be "beaten" in a court. Questionable (but not criminal) conduct is open to public interpretation and that can be extremely damaging if the public interpretation is that you're a pedo child groomer. Molly Wright provided absolutely fuck all evidence for her story and was believed instantly and totally. Despite that fact that even if what she said was 100% true, it's yet again not a crime and can't be "beaten" because it's an anecdote some slag wrote on social media. Taffeta Darling's horseshit was confirmed by Piskor in his note but also not a fucking crime.

If you're accused of an actual crime and get your day in a court of law, then you have ample opportunity to beat the allegations and present whatever relevant evidence you have to clear your name. But when you get dogpiled and called a pedo by the internet, there's no case and no way to "beat" it.
How do you prove to the art gallery that was going to show your work that you didn't try to get a blowjob from Molly Wright in exchange for a phone number?
They'll believe her without evidence of your guilt a lot sooner than they'll believe you without evidence of your innocence.

Even if Ed Piskor didn't take the easy way out, he likely would have been out of work for years (like Warren Ellis has been). Maybe he didn't think he could survive without having regular work (a legitimate worry for almost everyone). Despair makes a motherfucker do crazy shit.

That's just the national default. Other law can and have set higher age of consent.

Here's something that may be of interest: despite foreign misconceptions (and pedo fantasies), people under 20 are considered "juveniles" in Japan according to civil codes. When both in a relationship are 20+, they're completely safe from prosecution for it anywhere in the country -- unless prostitution is involved. The laws are tougher on men than women.

I do believe Eric July can do something though, I was listening to his show yesterday and he was explaining to a superchatter that Alphacore was a story he couldn't create, that it was Chuck Dixon working within the Rippaverse guide book. I know that seems mundane, but after so many years of "this guy that" and "this guy that" and "this person dumped---" it's really cool hearing a 500,000 subscriber channel owner, multiple millions of dollars on comic book sales, saying things like: "I didn't do that. That wasn't me. I provided the road to get there."
