That's honestly the right call and has been the case since the civil war. Taiwan is in a really convoluted position since it lays claim to be the true government of China and the entire mainland is being ruled by a rebellious splinter government. Which sounds ridiculous on paper, but Taiwan declaring itself 'independent' would nullify its claimed legitimacy to the Chinese government and give the CCP the plausible geopolitical argument that they're a rebellious province that requires military intervention.

I find all the hand-wringing about downloading these pdfs funny. Back in the early 90s, we just bought them straight from Loompanics and Paladin Press.

Pro-tip: Much of these books contains erroneous information, not purposefully, but because the writers were 70s-80s era edgelords with little first hand experience in doing builds of the plans they wrote about. If you don't have much chemical or builder's experience derived from less questionable hobbies, you'll lose body parts or worse. Caveat Emptor and have fun playing Minecraft, or if you want to keep it non-anachronistic, Syndicate and X-Com.

The US is quietly arming Taiwan to the teeth​

When US President Joe Biden recently signed off on a $80m (£64.6m) grant to Taiwan for the purchase of American military equipment, China said it "deplores and opposes" what Washington had done.

To the casual observer it didn't appear a steep sum. It was less than the cost of a single modern fighter jet. Taiwan already has on order more than $14bn worth of US military equipment. Does a miserly $80m more matter?

While fury is Beijing's default response to any military support for Taiwan, this time something was different.

The $80m is not a loan. It comes from American taxpayers. For the first time in more than 40 years, America is using its own money to send weapons to a place it officially doesn't recognise. This is happening under a programme called foreign military finance (FMF).

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year, FMF has been used to send around $4bn of military aid to Kyiv.

As one long-time China watcher put it: "We need to keep quiet on the whole issue of strategic ambiguity, while arming Taiwan to the teeth."

WW2 got the US out of the Great Depression because FDR and his lackeys were forced out of the government and their horrible economic policies were repealed. In order for WW3 to fix our economic problems, we'd have to similarly get rid of our elite. It's much more preferable to just get rid of the elite without the war though. There is no situation where war boosts the economy as long as the current elites stay in power.

But of course, if we have today's economy under Trump the Robert Reich types and other leftists would be nonstop complaining about the worst economy since the depression and the widening gap of income. I have a few of these books and manuals around but not the Anarchist Cookbook. Most of it is straight up useless as it mentions a bunch of drug stuff that is worthless or landline and shoplifting things that haven't been useful since the 1980s.

The narrative we see around Trump has existed plenty of times in history. The elite that is a "class traitor" galvanizing support from lower classes the elites have abused. Who by all rights should have been on the elites side and probably would have been if they just agreed to play along with that person for a bit.

The real danger with Trump is if someone willing to play along comes along on behalf of the institutions and elites and defuse what actually needs to be done.

Apparently, from what I've been told, the books by one author published in the late 90s for cooking high grade meth and ecstacy is so complete and correct that if you can get your hands on the lab equipment and chemical precursors (nigh impossible now) and have chem lab experience, you could LARP as Walter White to your heart's content. Wish I could remember the name of the guy who wrote it. Pretty sure he got caught for selling the lab equipment to bike gangs and is serving life in prison.
