New re:View
Largely agree with the conclusions on this movie. I remember one of my first DVDs was a Predator/Predator 2 multipack and I could never figure out why 2 seemed so hated.

I guess on paper it has a whole bunch of shit that sounds like it would inevitably be cheap and terrible (i.e. relocate the setting to the big city, include then topical muh societal/political references, amp up the action and comedy, crowbar in a fucktunne of new "lore" which removes much of the mystery) but it was all pulled off so earnestly and without either winking at the camera or zero effort phoning in, with actors and set designers and even CGI drones all doing their best to make the movie enjoyable and memorable and even the new lore which would have been so horrifically easy to turn into absolute fucking cringe-cancer was crowbarred in with finesse and restraint enough to leave the audience wanting more....so much more infact that it spouted a whole combined spinoff universe with Alien.

If this is what passed for a bad movie in the 90s then fuck my ass we are truly living in a dark age with currentyear.

I really hated the Predator 2 video. It's one of my favorite sequels but the video is so low energy and felt like "Yeah, I don't care. I guess this is a thing?" With next to no research done at all. Usually the guys are good at covering their bases but for Predator 2 they just dropped the ball. Such as time being wasted with nonsense comments about Danny Glover's pants for some reason.

It's not an awful video from them but if you already know a lot of the trivia behind Predator 2 it's pretty pointless to watch the video.

It's also very funny to see Jay do a complete 180 and agree with Colin that yeah, the Predator as a concept you could set it anywhere. BUT, in the Half in the Bag for The Predator (part 4) he agrees with Mike that Predator is done as a concept.

They can’t even say the name of the movie without getting in trouble with YT and their audience.

I’m guessing that’s gonna be an easy pass for them.

Although I wanna see that too

Now I'm hoping for a 30 minute video of them just struggling to figure out what to call it.

I’ve seen both a review and a full reaction of it.

It’s actually incredibly boring and not even worth watching for the hilarious racist stuff in it.

zoomer idiots who think the only reason people hate the Prequel Trilogy is because of Mike
Yeah I've often wondered how many of those who blame RLM have seen this:

Which predates the plinkett reviews. (because the plinkett reviews use some footage from that in their vids)

so much more infact that it spouted a whole combined spinoff universe with Alien.
I mean to put this in the comments but this is actually a misunderstanding.

When Dark Horse realized they had the license for both Alien and Predator, they came up with the idea for a crossover comic FIRST. It took a bit of planning to get everything lined up to make the comic, during which the production of Predator 2 began. (remember the guys point out the movie was made first) As the film was being made, they got wind of the upcoming comic and that's what got the alien skull put in the ship as a nod. The fact that the comic did finally see print after the movie hit theaters is why so many assume the movie spawned the comic when in fact the idea was being created before the film.

Now I'm hoping for a 30 minute video of them just struggling to figure out what to call it.
"The society of magical urban audiences."

Was probably fartsniffng professional critics that disliked it. This shit was legendary for adolescent boys. I remember coming home with the VHS & watching it with friends, everyone wiling out over the scenes with all the new Yautja weaponry. Especially this thing:

It’s long been considered a respectable sequel, as with The Fly 2 and Robocop 2.

It doesn't. Plinkett TPM came out before People VS George Lucas was ever screened. Its first screening at a film festival was in March 2010, 1 month before Plinkett AOTC, meaning it didn't even have a limited theater run yet. It was festival fodder until mid 2011, well after Plinkett wrapped up ROTS at the end of 2010. Shit didn't come out on DVD until October 2011.

PVSGL has a trailer going back to early 2009 though, so some of the footage was available for Mike to use. A lot of the original RLM videos were struck with copyright claims and were reuploaded at later dates.

No, I remember back in the day that retards hated Predator 2 for retarded reasons.

That said, I totally get why someone would hate Alien 3 or a sequel like that. I get it. I may disagree specifically with Alien 3 but I at least see where you are coming from. But with Predator 2, people who like the first film and hate part 2 are just telling me in indirect terms that they're retarded. Because the retards can only explain why they dislike Predator 2 in these terms:

"Der, movie bad because no Schwarzenegger!"

Or

"Der, movie bad because uhm... No Schwarzenegger and it's not set in a jungle again!"

That is it. Those are the only reasons why. Consistently 9.9 times out of 10. That is one of my idiot barometers. Now, I don't think less of someone who prefers the first movie over 2. That's fine. That's just a matter of preference but to say that "Predator 2 sucks because it's not the same movie again!" Just tells me that the person is retarded.

I stand corrected mixing up my dates. I should know better than be sober.

That George Lucas documentary sucked, it was less about George Lucas being retarded and more about showing aspiring filmmakers how they made home movies of a bunch of Lucasfilm properties, very self indulgent. That actual RLM discussion was better than the doc.

I wish they had George do more food reviews like the salads.
