Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Which disgusts me more, that it's a Hollywood live-action version of an anime, which have such a track record for quality, or that it's from the creator of Rick & Morty and one of that shows writers.
At this point what can you do but point and laugh? It's always the same pattern; the people stupid enough to pay money for the privilege of watching a doomed to fail anime adaptation, the inevitable subsequent coping that it "wasn't as bad as people say" the abundant signs roughly a week after launch that it was completely DOA and such utter box office kryptonite that the IP will collect dust in a hollywood vault somewhere for decades before someone manages to get the rights to another ill-advised adaptation.

The Execution arc in Gintama was pretty lame. Maybe it would have worked in the early parts of the anime but by now it's really generic "Gin meets girl related to his past" without any side character to back things up.

Also started watching Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi. Reminds me a bit of Bakemonogatari, 10/10 booba.

Regarding the recent Nagatoro development, I bring you this hilarious self-own.

Liar Satsuki Can See Death had a disappointing and anti-climactic ending but apparently there's at least an epilogue coming in a month or so.

I originally wasn't going to post this but I'm hoping at least one other person remembers this amazing man.

Bruce Malte Carlson, better known by his online alias Grumpy Jii-san, was sadly found to have passed away in October of last year.

He was arguably one of the original otaku of America and helped with fansubbing and import efforts of anime from the 80s onwards. He would later go on to make a YouTube channel giving anime reviews while hiking across his home state of Arizona where he could talk about Princess Tutu one day and High School of the Dead the next.

He was an inspiration for my and many others' appreciation of anime back in the day and I was holding out hope he was still alive but it wasn't meant to be.

Pictured below is just a small piece of the collection he amassed over the years, his smaller belongings including the glasses he used to wear in his videos, and his obituary confirming his death.

If you aren't aware of who he is but would like to know more about his contributions to the American anime scene, the person who wrote the community post above has a rather comprehensive video on his content, his disappearance, who he was as a person, and how a manhunt to find what happened to him came to be.
Rest in peace Jii-san, your memory will live on.

Aw man, and Jii-san died mere months after the video was made. He must've never known about it, isolated from the rest of the world during his last days, it sounded like.

Sad news. Not unexpected, but it still sucks. I hope his family (grandkids, likely) is taking care of his collection. I'd hate to hear it got tossed.

Harmon has done other things (none of which has the tone of R&M: that's more the other guy) and he's famously a huge story structure autist with at least some background comic book stuff so I don't think that's the worst thing. Although I can't attest to his comics work; I know I've read one of them but it was a long-ass time ago before I'd ever heard his name.

Obviously I'm expecting the worst from a hollywood adaptation but I don't think poop jokes will be the issue.
Expect nihilism, drugs and alcohol.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if wubba or whatever makes it into the final product. And Saitama ends up saying it.

Let me take a hand at guessing. He's going to look at Saitama's life and think that he's some depressed fuckwit with a boner for fucking shit up. He transforms an otherwise depressed, but still mild mannered man into a nihilistic asshole ready to throw down with every Tom, Dick and Harry out there, all the while spouting some philosophy over how much life sucks and that he wants to do drugs.

In case you think this isn't possible, look what they did to Cowboy Bebop.

But they'll get so many semitic shekels from the ESG-fund by turning Saitama into a gay tranny race traitor!

He's just a writer on this, not running the production, so I'm not sure why you think some sort of Rick & Morty crossover is in the realm of possibility.
To the contrary if you've seen Community (which he was the showrunner for), just about every other episode contains some explicit pointed criticism of shitty writing practices and cliches. So he's at least pretty self-aware and fine on a technical level as a writer even if you dislike one thing on his resume thematically.

Like I said it's probably safe to assume it'll suck but I'm not sure what point this kind of unfocused hyperventilating doomsaying shit has.

there certainly a lot of one Piece episodes, aren't there? Luckily I got a dual audio batch of the first 1070 along with movies and ovas but the comments said that four videos were broken that I confirmed and had to download elsewhere, plus i had to download the last 30 manually. On the bright side I binged this during lockdown and I'm pretty sure I stopped in the middle of the Zou arc so i only have about 350 episodes to catch up on.

The one thing I dislike in SpyxFamily is how it potrays the children. Anya and her peers behave nothing like 5 year olds.
No one wants a character that behaves like a young kid in their media. Since those usually get annoying very very fast. If anything SpyxFamily is better than most since the kids are the right balance of stupid and cute, rather than being either jerks, too sweet or hyper competent.

Many of the kids can be a bit mature at times, but there are other moments that are spot on to real children.

Concerning recent Frieren talk. Found an interesting comparison.

There's a difference between what seems to be an "axis" compared to the Unified King's staff which looks like a star, but I found it interesting at eye catch.
