That's because HIV is almost always passed by drug abuse i.e needles. The reason it's correlated with gay men, is because they just happen to perform a sexual act that results in higher chance of blood mixing i.e taking it up the ass.
That being said (and contrary to what people actually believe), most gay men with HIV got it from sharing needles with their HIV/AIDS ridden partner (not the sex). You just don't get the same viral load during sex that you would from a needle being stuck straight into the source. Its not impossible, sure; its just far more likely drugs are involved (and the issue).
Plus, even a needle needs to be exchanged quite a few times for you to be infected indefinitely (on top of shit health i.e drug abuse). I've heard of freak incidents where a completely healthy physician/patient gets completely stuck/injected with contaminated blood samples, and they didn't even get infected. I DO NOT RECOMEND, but either way our knowledge on transmission of HIV has increased greatly over the years.
Hell, just had a middle aged female patient come in the past year, and learn she's been carrying HIV for years and didn't know. She struck me more as a secret junky than some hookup sex fiend.
this is totally and utterly wrong and i need everyone who clicked the 'informative!' updoota to realise this.
IVDU counts for tiny amount of tranmissions.
i dont know why you write something so wrong, so long, and so confidently.
A sex act like anal sex, which has a higher rate of small tears happening, and as such, blood to blood contact, is more of a risk and hence accounts for higher prevalence in male/male sexual contact.
if it was mainly sharing needles, it could never ever become an epidemic on the scale it has
-because almost everyone has sex, whereas a much smaller group of people share needles.
the infection also dies out in blood which is external to the body very quickly, unlike Hepatitis which stays active for like a week on old dried blood.
'muh viral load' lmao gtfo peppering in some scientific terms when you obviously know fuck all about a subject but decide to drop in a massive load of mis-info bullshit.
is it really that hard to just NOT go on a screed about something you dont know enough about? (guess so. )
sorry to be harsh but really, its a dangerous thing to do.
Because it just takes one dumb fuck to take the chance on boning someone suss, because its totally science that aids is actually mainly from needles!
People make bad sex decisions, and in the heat of the moment thats the kind of bullshit that can tip things.
