One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

When they were in Skypeia, Luffy WAS a rubber human as it made him immune to lightning. So does the Nika Fruit just make the bearer immune to whatever they think it's supposed to be? If Luffy didn't have an IQ of 78 could he make himself immune to the sea salt that cripples Devil Fruit users? Bullets? Death? As it is, the Nika Fruit story just feels like a late stage ass pull to make the MC's fruit better than the mediocrity it is, because the rubber fruit is fucking trash tier.
I’ve always thought the point of Devil Fruits was that its power was subject to how much the user wanted to train themselves with it and test what can be done with it alongside things like Haki. Like how In Wano Robin became a spider demon because she’d be willing to do that to protect her friends. Also, How many other fruits have things like the gear stages?

Luffy’s Fruit does make him bullet proof we’ve seen this. Awakening did bring him back from the dead. And we saw him in Wano, dude could not use his powers but the cuffs hardly bothered him.

Nika is not an arse pull or a late stage one at that in what it can do. People were saying that would be the Awakening since Awakenings were really shown off in Dressrosa.

The arsepull bit is the God aspect of it argubly and Luffy’s laugh also makes it clear that was planned as well,

It’s just the Elders explanation was so botched.

That’s Oda’s main issue honestly. Is he plans a lot but the execution of those plans sometimes does not work to put it mildly,
they don't need an elaborate system of political control and deception.
They kind of do if they are lazy, want to live comfortably and don’t want to nuke the world every 20 years. And they are honestly only having to get involved now because they keep being too leniant with people because they don’t want to go all out.

Ohara only happened because they gave Clover 16 chances to knock his shit off and he went ‘nah, I’ll keep doing it’. York has seemingly indicated the same was true for the Vegapunks.

True control is being able to deal with things if you really need to but not having to because you can make everyone else do it.

And for all intense and purpose, it’s worked.

And it seems likely it’s going to work for Egg Head only for the robot to mess things up.

Luffy still believes he's a rubber man. If it was so trash tier, then why does he bounce back as hard as he does every single time he gets his shit pushed in?

Wasn’t it because Luffy uses his rubber powers to soften the blow? And gear 5 causes the ground itself to become rubber?

That and Classic shonen thickheadedness.

Luffy IS still a Rubberman* because Nika was also made of Rubber, Kuma reiterates that in his flashback, that is why Bonney can mimic Luffy's powers because she was told Nika was a Rubberman. Hell I imagine that when Luffy is told about the real name of the fruit he will be like "What that is stupid, I ate the Gum Gum Fruit..Shanks told me the name. *Insert Silly nickname for Imu here* You are dumb thinking my fruit is a Zoan from some guy named Nika."

Given Luffy's history I very much doubt that Luffy will even care about the whole Joyboy thing unless Joyboy and Nika show up with a plate full of meat. I think that is one of the reasons the fruit "Chose" Luffy.

Edit: This is one of the reasons the Awakening is so powerful..He gets the enhanced Durability of an awakened Zoan..plus a Paramecia power to make..Reality itself Rubber.

*99% of the time, The Fruit lets Nami assault Luffy for the LULZ, if a badguy could make it funny to hurt Luffy..Luffy could be in deep shit even with Gear 5.

Also what are the chances that Luffy's super true dream is "I get to tell Shanks I TOLD YOU SO when I said I would be The Pirate King? And that it mimiced Roger beecause Roger told Whitebeard "And then I will get to tell Reyligh "I TOLD YOU SO!" It's Childish..and in character for both of them

And the only reason it is failing now is because Roger used their showboating against them.

i have always thought about it like this. the nika fruit seems to be based around freedom. in its normal state the user is free to do whatever they imagine they can do. luffy was told he ate the gum gum fruit and that he was made of rubber. so when he fights he does so thinking his body is made of rubber which is how he does all his attacks. in the fruits awakened state this effect of freedom begins to effect everything around the user.

i do not think devil fruits are so much related to evolution but rather they give their users freedom but with limits. luffy is the only one who has true freedom he is just unaware of it.

their is most likely an actual gum gum fruit out there but i imagine it was hidden somewhere to ensure nobody would realize the nika fruit was actually not the true gum gum fruit.
It's a pun on elasticity.

Honestly, my thing about it is that I have my head when folks go like ODA NEVER FORGETS or say that he's a master of foreshadowing because of things like Luffy dancing at a campfire in Skypiea is a foreshadowing of Nika, or saying that Sanji's backstory was hinted at in Alabasta because he chose to call himself "Mr. Prince".

It'd be in character for Luffy, but I fear that the dream may have been hyped up too much for that to be seen as anything other than a letdown

I'm now wanting it to be that the One Piece is one of those all you can eat Chinese buffets. It's funny and you can pig out all you want.

I disagree..I think everyone would laugh, because it is Luffy. People would be mad at first..but then start laughing as Luffy dunks on Shanks..as Chopper and Usopp join in, Robin giggles..and the rest of the crew look on in embarrassment.

It will be like the Torture Dance in Jojo.

I mean both of those were probably planned honestly but then there are like a billion arcs invetween that so how on earth is anyone even supposed to remember that? And I’m betting the only reason Oda remembered is he’s got his outline wrote down. Which is why when it comes back up everyone is like ‘wtf did this come from?’

"Kaido won't go down to some ordinary punch."

Bajrang Gun wasn't some usual punch, but you know...

I thought he should have won by permanently turning Kaido into rubber plush so literally even the weaklings of Wano could beat him up just for the disrespect.

But I like that Kaido got what he wanted in losing and can peace out.

Not denying outlines, but I think some think Oda has some kind of superpowers when it comes to his writing to have it all connect and make sense. Something that puts him massively above others in his field.

I don't think he has super powers..I think he does something that I am fairly certain that 99% of people who produce Shows/Manga/Books don't do.

He Re-reads his shit once in a while and refreshes himself on shit he has done.

Never really thought that was a rarity in the industry.

in the world of weekly manga standard story planning is a superpower. lol
And Akira Toriyama became a legend without doing that.

So I just checked the anime, and they just got to the Luffy and Lucci rematch. 15 chapters later, we got Imu's first piece of dialogue.

I suspect we're going to see Imu again in the manga soon before the anime begins casting proper, if they're going to cast a voice yet. Trying not to get hyped here, but I'm hyped.

Jesus, where we're at currently in the manga might take until episode 1170.
