The Critical Drinker

Have you seen his "Why modern movies suck? Because he does exactly that.

I agree woke shit has to go completely. But the only difference is that he goes into the nuance of why Woke shit doesn't work. instead of being like " Le evil SJWs and KK hate us" like the quartering or Doomcuck do.

I for one find his approach far more valuable
Yeah, I've watched all his movie stuff. He seems to moving into gaming, which blah, that's a bad field imo.

I gave up on doomcock long ago when he swore Han would be in Mando season 1 ending, and basically said 'I guarantee it'. I don't like his character nonsense either.

Thequartering is hit or miss. Usually mostly ok, but he goes through long dry spells of boring repeating crap.

I like Drinker overall. He's like a more precise clownfish, which is also up and down.

Everything has needed to be absolutely pigeon-holed for since 2016. Before that you could kind of leave your leanings into it, but you didn't have to take a hard stance. It's actually gone on longer, the only time things were 'united' socially/politically in the USA was in the 9 months or so after 9/11, then it all went back to shit. Before 9/11 the leftist politics were mostly CNN and NYT and things like doonesbury and NPR.

Now everyone and their cat has to be for or against everything. It's the overton window to extremes where it's one or another. I can't for the LIFE of me tell what Trump did t hat different than Obama overall except some minor tax things and immigration reform. IMO he was better than things are now by a bit, but goddamn if biden wins again it'll just be more goofy shit in general.

If Trump wins, it'll be still goofy shit, but maybe a bit less so. Fucking getting tired of this crap. Trump's a freaking liberal imo on social stuff, and the right loves him. It's all just a name-game of sides. Us vs them, no principles anymore.
Politics has always been like this, but people didn’t use to be this involved. I went through 12 years of school without discussing politics through blue/red team sports. It was totally clinical, and we cared about shit young people should far more. Now there’s no escape anywhere, because “everything is political” and we need to be aware of “power systems and imbalances at all times”.

It’s ruinous.
I don't really care who they vote for specifically, they are complaining about something that is an outcropping of specific politics and they are onboard with an earlier version of it that has the same issues just less obviously. The people that comprise their audience detect that something is wrong and are looking for a reason, these people are giving them a very myopic version of it that doesn't lead anywhere. That's why I call them grifters, because they're grifting off genuine concerns but refuse to actually do due diligence on how to solve the problems the concerns are about.

And they are not trying to stay in the lane of star wars people, they are explicitly talking about political ideologies, or at least the results of that, in fact that's pretty much what their channel is about but told through the medium of movies. Critical drinker isn't really a "movie review who happens to sometimes talk about anti-woke stuff" he's a "Anti-woke movie review guy" it's what made him get big.
They’re talking about political ideologies because that’s what’s inserted in the media. It’s explicitly pro-Marxism in different lenses (racial, gender, economical, religious, etc.). They’re not Sargon on the plight of liberal societies. If you want to say more than they had a gay, they had a black, you have to cover the things the creator admit motivate them to produce their garbage. However, there’s a still a line and they need to stay off it.

A lot of these people are centrists/center-libs. That’s not my politics, but I can appreciate that they see something is wrong with the political space close to theirs.

Am I understanding correctly that the grifting label comes from them still subscribing to left leaning ideas, but not acknowledging where they’ve gone awry? Just noting that things are bad?

In a way, more specifically they are drawing people into the wrong conclusions, deluding them that there is a version of this where base level leftist ideas are still there but they don't grow eventually into this.

He is consistently going back and forth on what is "woke" based not on some principle or revelation but on whatever is currently marketable for him. On top of that he actively strokes his own ego and appeases the more left wing by countersignaling people who are further right than him, or just consider something woke that he doesn't, the anti-woke video being a prime example.

Grifters banging heads together to each prove their grift is better, this makes me want to be dead.
ETA: "It's not realistic!" "It's a videogame adaptation, I expect it to be like the videogame" Yeah, I can agree with that retort.

I used to watch critical drinker until I realized all his videos were the same

every single one of his videos is drinker saying a tv show or movie did bad financially because of being woke and then he randomly inserts a gif or two and makes a joke and passes it off to the masses
That was why I stopped watching. Didn't always agree with his opinions, but there are far more abrasive content creators out there.

I mean yeah. I watched Fallout and once I realized they weren't trying to make it "real" or serious, but instead just a live action video game, essentially, I stopped caring about most of the plot holes and weird shit not making sense. It's still not that good but it's somewhat enjoyable I guess. I never played the games so I don't know any of the canon of the games to get upset over them destroying in the show.

The main arguments about the show have to do with an age old slapfight between fans of either Black Isle/Obsidian Entertainment Fallouts(1, 2, and New Vegas) and Bethesda Fallout(3 and 4), the latter of which having more mainstream appeal.
If you ignore the gang war it's more palatable.

Id say its less a gang war and more a nerd fight, which is just emberassing. Like, what always annoyed me on people who jack off NV, is that the main catalyst in F1 ans 2 was a basic good vs evil schtick, something Bethesda stuck too in F3, 4 tried to have a more grey area like NV but like NV it falls apart when you breakdown all the sides in the conflict and realizie that their cons outweigh whatever pro BS they're trying to sell.

Yeah there’s a scene in episode 2 or 3 where an elderly scientist dodges gunfire from an automated turret… and by dodges, I mean he basically walks casually through the firing line. I thought it was really stupid ‘til I realized shit like that happens in-game all the time too. If fans of the game wanna shit on it being unrealistic, so is a “mysterious stranger” in a fedora and trenchcoat showing up occasionally to one-hit your enemy, or the ability to sneak a live grenade into someone’s pocket without them noticing…

Are you retarded? Do you realize that Tv shows and movies are a completely different medium from video games?
What a dumb argument "Stupid crap happens in video games so it should also happen in movies and tv"
No shit that in most videogames your character can survive multiple bullets and explosions, making it so you die in one single hit would be terrible game design. Having a character run at flash level speed in order to dodge damage would disoriented all player so it's tone down for convenience and enjoyment. The same doesn't apply to Films or TV, if a character manage to dodge a turret by slowly walking is goddam stupid regardless if in the video game you run at a same speed.

Not anymore. Movie and television show characters are now bullet sponges. In Game of Thrones they even had characters that could fast travel in the later seasons. No more pesky plots held back by things like 'realism' or 'logic'. Just have them teleport to where the plot needs them. Fallout Amazon had the same idea by having the characters literally just run into each other over and over without any setup or reasonable explanation. Like the Wasteland is the size of a small city block and an entire multi state territory.

For better or worse, I feel it’s the compromise we have to make to get more accurate adaptations. Do I think it’s silly? Of course! But I’d rather they go a little overboard with incorporating even the dumbest aspects of games than the directors making a show/ movie that just uses the name of the source material while doing its own thing (like the old Mario Bros live action movie). Ideally it would be nice if the writers could balance out the good with the bad, but have you seen the level of talent they have? I’m amazed they can write semi-coherent dialogue half the time.

And the shitting on the lore for yet another “capitalism is the real enemy of everything, it’s heccin bad!” message.
I mean, I wanna ask how it's shitting on the lore, as both China an USA were kinda driven by greed for natural resources, that was pretty much said even in F1-2. Mr.House in NV for all his fancy talks is still a simple capitalist who's driven by profit.
