I suspect they’ll just push out the retirement age a few years but freeze the payouts. Thanks to inflation, getting a $600 a month check means less and less. Meanwhile they’ll create more agencies that are made for pee oh cees so they can collect more gibs while whitey is just stuck with their rapidly deteriorating retirement.
I’ve said for a while that MAID-style end of life facilities are going to get more popular and I stand by that. Boomers have not saved up enough and the government can’t wait to get rid of old white leeches so they can better accommodate young black and brown leeches.

irl buddy is constantly trying online portals and I keep telling him cold call the businesses at the local offices and be "yo, I'm in this profession, I need work, you need a guy?" it's not a great bargaining position for pay and you'll get told to fuck off most of the time, but eventually you find the place where That Guy just quit/died/was arrested and you poof out of the sky with experience in the field and you're gold

Yes and no. Every posted job gets about a thousand applications. About 900 of those applications are by braindead morons that aren't even in the right field.
My knowledge of the industry comes from conversations with business leaders, and what I can tell you is that everyone is shitting their fucking pants. Pajeets have been unemployable since late '22 because nobody needs to sponsor an H1-B when the hiring needs aren't fuckin obscene. They are also, by and large, fundamentally worse than most morons entering tech and finance from within the US.
But I digress, the financial services industry (tech too) as a whole is downsizing overwhelmingly because there's no growth left to be had without zero percent interest rates. No more start-up funding rounds. No more exchanging money from one account to another to constitute a business. They all have to fight for actual money from the average consumer. The problem is that the average consumer has no fucking money because the Fed is inflating the dog shit out of it.
I'm getting drunker. Forgive the rambling. This whole house of cards is barely staying up.
Further edit for @mlanguishi : Job boards also have the problem that every 3rd party agency working said job will post their own ad in order to get CVs flowing toward them. I didn't work with job boards because the average candidate couldn't chew gum and walk at the same time, but nonetheless they're inflated by 3-4 times the actual amount of jobs available on said board.

Hey! It leaked today that by the end of August we're going from 500 employees to 150! Morale in the office is at an all time fucking high. Also I'm opening the whiskey on a Monday!
Oh, this is a fun one. In engineering and we got one all the way through to interviews with the direct manager in the last hiring round we did that was applying for an engineering job with an art degree. She checked some diversity boxes though.
The options were
A guy with multiple master's degrees (entry level position, he'd never have taken it)
An Indian (who we picked. He's literally retarded and his degree is likely fake.)
And a lawnmower mechanic (no degree either)
HR was clearly told to only give us one viable option, the H1B visa guy.

I've been known to visit in person, big or small companies, and ask for details on how to apply and if I can apply in person. Make sure ya got your resume handy and double make sure you hand it over to someone like a store manager or someone that will actually know what the local branch needs. Even better if you get an opportunity to build up a rapport like a customer to a worker type of deal. Those jobs usually worked out best for me, problem is it is getting harder and harder to do. To pull it off now a day you'll need the charisma and confidence that's inflated more than the Obamas.

If the H1-B Visa guy is working remotely you're paying 10 times the asking rate for a dude who is almost certainly sitting in Hyderabad. If he's in office, I'm so sorry but your nostrils will be scorched earth by the time his first week is through. Indians have some kind of fucking aversion to deodorant, so get used to the smell of onions.

If I were an old US boomer contemplating MAID, I'd probably just put my state of mind to good use and shoot a child molester or a politician (but I repeat myself...). Then I've done some good and the state will have to pay to feed and house me at a local prison. Where, having shot said molester / politician, I'll probably be at least tolerated by the other inmates. Spend my twilight years working out, reading books and knowing I wont be a burden on my loved ones.
And if they let me out I'll just keep killing child molesters until a judge invites me back.
