I'm not sure if they'd really go that far. I mean, there is a charity in Texas that's gotten some bigger press (archive) that donates cars to poor people, namely black and Latino people.

Whatever GBP that's worth to lefties, that's washed out because it's in Texas, it's Christian, and the founder literally studied in automotive engineering, plus the fact that it supports research that cars can help the working poor have better access to wealth generation (a fact that even The Atlantic reported in 2014, but something that Reddit will vehemently deny).

Anyone who has been ass-poor knows that a fucking clunker car is worth it but also annoying expensive with random repairs; especially if you don’t have the ability or friends who can help fix it.

The fixed costs of a paid off hoopta are surprisingly low; which helps during period of unemployment.

The charity does pay for repairs and maintenance for the first year but they're all mostly new cars which means that doing something monumentally stupid or a freak accident, maintenance and repair is negligible.

The idea that cars help provide access people to higher-paying jobs and a higher quality of life doesn't seem to be up for debate in mainstream society but I'm sure that these weirdos probably will argue otherwise.

You know...all these urbanists videos are so focused on how single-family houses are bad and how apartments are good, they never address the existing problems of apartments, like all new construction is paper-thin walls, how predatory the myriad of lease agreements, fees, deposits, and fines are, how even if they can't pick and choose who they want anymore, they could at least start building better and build what residents want to see.

For instance, since they seem to like gathering places, what if an apartment building had an English-style pub inside the building, but just for residents? (it's not a new idea--some places did this in the 1960s and 1970s). The other page from the past is that a lot of apartments had architectural themes and naming to go along with it. Why live in another five-over-one called "The Creekmont" when you could live in an apartment complex themed after an alpine ski resort?

Their argument is something to the effect of "don't 3 year olds have a right to wander the streets unsupervised?!?!?! Think of the children chuddie!!!!!" Gosh, I wonder why redditors want to have unsecured kids wandering thr street.

My eyes always glaze over when I see redditors pull the "for da keedz!!!!" argument. "For the children!" is almost always a grating argument to respond to, but I can at least buy the sincerity of the school board moms actually reproducing and raising their kids properly when they do it. Redditors champion troons, child vaccinations, and draw queen story hour. They spend hours on r/childfree and r/antinatalism bemoaning the state of the world and coping that foregoing children and cooming just makes logical sense with climate change. I'm absolutely convinced the only reason the argument comes out of their rotten cockholsters is because Jason and Chuck Moron put it there.

Just a reminder because I'm almost sure fuckcars reads this thread now. The neighborhood Chuck lives in is right next to a state highway and one of those stroads you bemoan so much. Not even, the majority of missing and murdered Native women never make it off the reserve. One of their own talking points is that newer cars are larger on average and therefore pose a greater risk to pedestrians and cyclists. A Nissan Micra from 2000 would have to pay a charge while a BMW iX wouldn't. The long-term effect of ULEZ will be less sedans and hatchbacks on London roads and more SUVs.

Also note that one of the leaflets also talks about improving public transport. They don't get that opposing ULEZ isn't a "carbrain" move, it's a "I don't want to buy a new car and be financially ruined or keep my old one and be financially ruined anyway" move.
