I can understand culling to protect the environment and manage populations; and I can totally get behind hunting. Feral hogs (escaped pigs from pig farms) are a problem in my state, and are considered vermin. You can kill as many as you want, as long as you want, whenever you want and with what ever weapons you want (outside of explosives (though I bet some redneck has done that to)). I have a problem with wasteful killing, or killing to excess of native species.I think America has been too sheltered after reading through the comments about animals being shot.
In Australia right now, it's TOTAL CAT DEATH and TOTAL RABBIT DEATH season through any means necessary including dynamite and poison and old fashioned lead bullet.
I wonder if New Zealand went through with its program of letting young teens shoot cats iirc as well.
A cull of cats or rabbits doesn't sound like a problem. Especially rabbits, given you can harvest the meat. I've been told they are better than chicken in terms of protein. Cats because they are a none-native species and can destroy/damage the ecosystem.
Y'all at least allowed to use .22s on them, right?
