Is murdering your dog le hecking basseroni, or le hecking cringerino?

You're assuming the people editing her book has her best interests in mind.
Apparently -she- isn't in the group of people who have her best interests in mind. The first rule any politician learns is that if something sounds bad don't bloody mention it unless you have to. If you have to, you spin it to sound good. If you cannot spin it, you deflect from it. If you cannot deflect it, you deny it. And so on.

She just happily skipped right past that and instead almost gleefully gloats about it.

Animals, kids, and the dead are the three things you -do not fuck with- as a politician. Even the Democrats realize this and spin like mad their bullshit. She just copped to it.

And what are the odds that she's never had to worry about that kind of thing as a Republican in South Dakota? It's like being a Democrat in Oregon.

She legitimately comes off as psycopathic in it, shooting the animal in front of a construction crew

Multiple animals killed where others can see it happen!!??!! On a farm!??!! Somebody pull up my fainting couch, I'm having a case of the vapors again.

I mean, I agree with this. If you grew up on a farm, just...don't talk about it. You average American is a soy-fed urbanite whose notion of rural life is derived entirely from Hallmark romantic comedies. If you've worked on a farm, you should be aware that it's kind of like working in a prison, or being a combat veteran, or being on the police force. Most Americans are psychologically unable to have anything but the most extreme, negative reactions to what that actually entails.

I think it's sad how soft Americans have become, but you need to win elections in reality, not a hypothetical alternative universe where your average person has taken his old nag to the glue factory himself.

Here's the thing, my starting life was on the farm and I have returned in my old age. There is propriety on the farm. The concept of "bring them behind the woodshed" is a thing because you didn't just shoot the animal where everyone can see it if you could avoid it. Its just not the done thing. If you have a choice you do it somewhere out of sight and out of mind.

She did it practically next to the main road.

Honestly, this does make some big issues with me. Not for the killing, but the fact that she apparently lacks the basic common sense god gave her to both do the job right, and to have the sense to not brag about it. It shows just a monumental lack of common sense even if I have no issue with the action itself.

I don't know what's funnier, the literal puppy  kicking killing politician or the badass "Real 'Muricans" performatively defending her against the "soft pushy city and suburban dwellers" ITT.

"I GREW UP ON A FARM, WE PURPOSEFULLY KILLED THE CUTEST ANIMALS AS A RITE OF PASSAGE GEEZ WHEN DID AMERICA GET SO SOFT?!"

Have you actually read her telling, or only the jumbled up sentence fragments in media reports trying to make her look like a psychopathic puppy killer?

When I wrote that, I misunderstood the quote with more details as being from the book instead of a journo synopsis. So it's possible she explains it better and the journos are the ones downplaying the justification with out leaving out so much detail as to risk a retraction.

"Well, la tee da, Mr "Who saved who?" never had a working dog before"

So a couple more points, at 14 months, it's really not a puppy any more. It'll be fully grown, at least with breeds I'm familiar with.

Also, when you have a dog that whips around and bites at people when worked up or freaked out, you don't take it to the vet to get put down. That's a liability you don't want, even if it's just on your conscious and not a civil liability.

I don't disagree that some dogs are a liability and unfixable, like say every shitbull. But there's humane and civilized ways to put them down besides leading them to a ditch, plugging them, and bragging about it to show what a badass hard case you are.

And as much as the farmers may feel their morality is superior to the pussy suburbanites, there isn't a scenario where America "hardens the fuck up" and goes back to the practical animal killing ways of the farm or general society 100 years ago where this would have seemed reasonable even in a small town or city. If you are a politician who who wants mainstream votes, you have to be aware of that. Of course you're never going to get the bleeding heart vegans, but you might not want to alienate the vast majority of regular people because Farmers Only isn't a site with a large enough subscriber base to turn into a winning voting block.

It’s her book so presumably she read it and gave the final thumbs up. If she didn’t actually read her own book, then that’s all the more reason not to consider her as any kind of serious candidate for higher office.
Quite frankly I don't care what Noem thinks, says, or does.
Shes an inconsequential governor of a one-party state. Sarah Palin was actually more important due to the massive natural resources Alaska has. South Dakota doesn’t have much of anything except the occasional flare up from unruly bikers once a year or injuns. It’s basically why a non-serious candidate is allowed to be a governor of a state like South Dakota to begin with. She would absolutely flounder on the national stage and this dog story is a big red flag to anyone paying attention.

That was essentially the point we were all making in "defending" her about it. It's an aspect of having dogs, especially if you have dogs bred for a job(or your cousin thinks having a pibble is cool), but she's either dumb in telling the story as a public figure, or dumb and fucking heartless in bragging about something that she thought made her look relatable.

Oh and shooting them in the head is about the most humane way you can put them down. Maybe rig up a way to carbon monoxide poison them, but I'd feel worse if I fucked it up and I'm a lot more sure of my aim at 5 feet. The fact that she had to shoot it twice is another aspect that makes her story look bad even to those that understand. She comes across as such an idiot in telling this story, I'm just assuming she didn't switch from bird shot to do it, and just rashly blasted the dog with the shells she had in her bag.

Just give them a tranquillizer, cover their head with a towel, say your goodbyes and put a slug in them.

"She then spun around on her heels, almost slipping on blood and the creature's guts.

- You should see what I do with the kittens! - she beamed, panting happily and looking disurbingly aroused. - And remember to vote for me in 2024, tee hee!"

Can we stop talking about the bloody dog shooting already?

America got soft...

When Jimmy Carter didn't use the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch on that killer rabbit.

Total Rabbit Death.
