Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

4 episodes into Cour2 of Mushoku Tensei S2 and it's immediately apparent that this cour is where all the budget went.

I mean it's completely understandable considering that this Cour has Turning point 3 and the labyrinth arc.

really, really good animation
Like look at that blood slowly spreading through her clothes and the fluffle of her ruffle

But right now we are about Chapter 38 of 97 in the manga, and episode 17 of 24 of the anime. So looks like we will need an additional double-cour season which i don't think has been announced and so will be a long ways away. Looks like we should end up with the gang meeting the immortal villagers and their tame monsters

Trigger was saving their animation budget for Falin's jiggle physics. GOAT studio. My only complaint about the anime would be the OPs feeling kind of off but I like the second one way more than the first one, even if it sounds like a Spy x Family OP.

I really do hope Dungeon Meshi gets a second season, especially since the manga gets extremely good right after where I expect them to end Season 1. Succubus in particular is a chapter that I will be sad if it doesn't get adapted this season or next season. Probably has some of my favorite panels.

The odds are good for it having a second season. The Manga is finished and ended on a good note, and the anime has been popular. We're about 37% of the way through the complete manga storyline, and if there were 48 episodes we would be about 35% through it. If we end at the point i mentioned earlier then it would be clear that we're matching the pacing of the manga with the assumption of a second full season. A second season is as close to guaranteed as we can get without official word.

Worst case is if season 2 is a single cour with no third season

Fine you fags, I'm giving in. I stopped early in the season, but I'm watching it right now. This shit better be Trigger peak.

I started watching Knights of Sidonia on recommendation from a friend. The setting feels interesting the the pacing is well-executed. The show has done a great job at setting up hooks and cliffhangers. I'm currently on Season 2 episode 2 and it's still going strong.
My chief complaint is that the CGI character models are... well, they're not great.

What is wrong with your faaaaaaaaaaaaace?
I liked it, some nice hard scifi plotpoints (splat event especially) and mecha is definitely the one genre where cgi is tolerable.

I dunno, the weight physics aren't lining up looking at the scene itself. Not just in the breasts, it's the tail, hair, feathers, and even the ground doesn't react to a head literally turning to pulp. She fell fast but with no sense of weight behind it, literally everything in the scene doesn't match the speed and "oomph" that you should actually feel just by looking at it. Where's the wind physics from the wings? Where's the "thud" of the body landing, and an impact crater (or just cracks in the ground)? Where's the tail thump as it hits the floor? Why is the hair bouncing to just one side and the bangs kept perfect? Where is the buck as she straightens up after landing?

This has been a modern animation problem for a long while now, but holy hell does the lack of proper weight distribution bug me.

I still remember all the doom and gloom that trigger got the job :story:
otoh it's not done yet, don't wanna jinx it.
Some people were deeply convinced by /a/ shitposting that Darling in the Franxx was Anime's Own 9/11 when it was just kind of dumb and a misfire. They now have been conditioned to scream incoherently whenever Trigger is mentioned.

The most fucked up part about Darnell in the Bronxx is that despite everyone saying it was an Eva rip-off it was actually and most puzzlingly a Godannar rip-off.

Darling in the Franxx's only comparison to Eva is having a male with low self-confidence be the MC, but in Darling's case, it was a clear and blatant attempt to appeal to coomers to self insert as the MC is so bland to be self-inserted into.

I am also completely in the belief the anime was just propaganda to get people to fuck.

My Wife is the Student Council President, too. Why else did it censor condoms for non-satellite broadcast? You can't make baby when you're using protection.

Yes I know the show was just horny for the sake of being horny and Ui was DTF, still had to laugh at the glowing condoms.

Started reading The Executed Sage Is Reincarnated as a Lich and Starts an All-Out War, which is shaping up to be what I expected Overlord to be until Ainz turned out to be an idiot

Darling in the Franx was mid.

I binged read Dungeon Meshi manga because the main character Laios and I have a lot in common, and I loved the anime. The Autism and the lack of social cues ring parallel with me. I also love vore coded story telling.

Currently reading Chainsaw man manga now, after putting it off for so long. No regrets.

To be fair, an anime with no redeeming values is kind of rare, being made by a notable studio even moreso. This may explain why everyone (myself included) seems to scream with hatred regarding them. Let's not forget that they made the forgettable Star Wars anime, the gay trash known as Promare and 2 more fuckups in the form of Shadow House and Wonder Egg Priority. In addition there is nothing worth salvaging it when a lot of other shows later down the years (Gridman, Edgerunners) outdid Franxx in every way possible.

It's like they grew out of the phase that gave us Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia and lost something in the process.

Snailords is such a cow, funny how xey're now on the canceled side

Shadow House and Wonder Egg Priority

Wasn't SH and WEG Cloverworks (aka CGDCT The Studio)?

Also, Shadow House Season 1 was indeed functional (excellent soundtrack) pity Season 2 was a mediocre adaptation. WEG was incredibly funny for the disaster value and the underlying message (You Will Never Be a Real Girl) but if you want to throw trash at Trigger you had the furry anime (BNA), that one was a dud.

lol I almost forgot about BNA, that anime was trying to have the same cultist fanbase as Beastars, then was promptly forgotten.

That's the hyperbole I'm talking about. If Darling had stuck the ending it would have just been a shallow and overhyped 7/10. Trigger is still above average for a medium/large studio in current year but there are plenty of people willing to ween them and string together underwhelming titles while pretending the good ones never happened to fit some sort of narrative in a way most other studio don't have to deal with.

To think there's still people who want to blame A-1 for Franxx being a trainwreck. Turned out Franxx was made because Imaishi wanted to get his whole Gainax crew back together for another show, and a lot of the talent had become A-1 contractors. So it's all the fault of the same guys who gave us Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking turning out a dud.
