John comes from a much older trans community that had a very different conception of what they were doing. They were mostly all what the troons today would call transmeds. Dr. Erica Anderson, that troon WPATH doctor that is now attacked as a TERF, has a similar vision as I assumed John had as they're roughly the same age. I could probably dig up other examples of older troons that question the gender ideology garbage, Caitlyn Jenner is maybe the most famous example.
As stupid as it is, John's goal was to live as a woman. And that's it. That's the point. John's obviously terrible at it, but it's what he seems to legitimately want. The modern troon doesn't want this, they want to be special and worshipped for whatever they choose to be in the moment. They're claiming womanhood because they think it has power not because they want it legitimately. John obviously has aspects of this but I think there's a distinction. John goes for that GAYMUR GURL stuff and talking about how he's attacked for how he looks because it validates his claim to womanhood and fits his own interests, that there's power in this is a bonus. The modern troon seeks the power in the oppression claim, hence why they're so insistent on making clear that they're TRANS women because that's an oppression stack. John may want to be oppressed to gain power but he wants to be oppressed like a cis woman.
Another distinction is that John clearly wants to be seen as a "successful" woman. Somebody like Kevin doesn't give a shit about that, his fetish will always matter more. (Not that John may not be pursuing his fetish by "living as a woman", it's just more private and traditional in its focus.)

This really is one of the best arcs we've seen from John. The progressives now hate his guts, and the I seriously doubt that anyone that wants to be taken even remotely seriously on the right would go to bat for John. Like always John's best strategy would be to just close Xitter, down a fistful of ambien and and just sit around his house playing with his expensive toys until the shitstorm dies down, then he could pop his head up, offer some half-assed apology with a promise to "do better" and he could go back to business as usual. John being who he is though, he decides to double down and insert himself into every convo he can find. I guess the money from the ScamPAC grift was getting low. I can't see how this is going to help him, it's not like people are going to suddenly start offering him large cash infusions to get up on stage and talk about anything in his Kermit on helium voice. Sure right now there are plenty of content creators that are happy to invite him on to talk about nothing but most are probably just trying to get eyes on their channels from rage clicks and people hoping they'll take John down a peg. Even that will dry up before too long as word of what John demands before he'll grace them with his presence. It'll be the same as when he was getting tapped for TV interviews, no hard questions, you can't say anything too negative about him, etc.

He's never worn his trans status on his sleeve like modern troons do because he doesn't want to be seen as anything other than a true and honest woman, and that would defeat the purpose of the tens (hundreds?) of thousands of Frank's dollars he spent to look like one. Even though it's been painfully obvious to anyone with working eyesight, he avoided being called out as the obvious troon he was, deadnaming being such a sin that no one would dare bring it up.
But thanks to how the progressive stack has changed over the past few years, women aren't at the top anymore, especially not white women, not even in John's beloved tech sphere. Trannies are far and away the most oppressed and thus the most valuable, and the new crop of troons will never stop making sure you know how trans they are. They can't fathom why anyone wouldn't want to make being a tranny a core part of their identity, which is why many simply refuse to accept John as one even when it's blatantly obvious.
So now John has to watch as this new batch completely destroys any empathy people might have had for troons, unable to do anything about it. Coming out as a tranny now would not get him any respect from the troons, and it would destroy the decades of work he's put into running from his past; it would also be proof positive that the farms were right all along about his being John Walker Flynt, and he can't hand us a win either. All he can do is bitch about it and then play the victim, same as his usual playbook.
It wouldn't be an issue for John if he didn't feel this pathological need to be the most important person in the room at all times. He legitimately hit the jackpot when he married Frank: wealthy, willing to fund every single one of his stupid dreams, gay and/or a tranny chaser. He could have spent decades doing nothing more than burning Frank's money on one project after another and being completely unknown otherwise, no worries about harassment or anything. But fortunately for us, he's too stupid to realize that it's all his own fault, so we'll get to enjoy watching him make a fool of himself for years to come.
