It's more of a miracle when these little $100 pawn shop pistols actually fire. It seems like the congregation thinks it's staged, and I suppose it could be. The guy with the gun didn't put up much of a fight.

There are so many ways you could go about disproving this...
The use function argument:
Dogs have been literally bred by us for 10's of thousands of years in order to serve functions. The functions are determined by breed. Some are ratters, some kill wolves, some herd, some are therapeutic. None of those reasons are for livestock consumption reasons. In terms of actual sustainability(how easy it would be to make it a long term source of food through breeding) vs other animals, the other animals beat it hands down. So you are just insisting on using a screwdriver as a hammer. I'm sure in a pinch you could and have used one as a hammer, but to make it acceptable alternative is just non-nonsensical.
The psychological/deontological argument:
All dog breeds, more than any other animal, have been breed to be able to emotionally connect with us. It is just a fact that dogs' survival depended on reading and acting accordingly to our emotional state. So when you have the animal that emotionally connects with us more than any other, that views us as members of it's family, to betray that for a meal of course it kills the dog, but it kills a bit of yourself as well, it jades you to emotional connections and makes your ability to connect with others a purely rational intellectual endeavor rather than an instinctual necessity. Even Kant who said there is 0 ethical necessity to treating animals a certain way said, "However those who treat animals poorly tend to reflect that behavior on others."

I agree with a lot of what he's saying but I don't think anything will happen until the Boomers are all dead. That and we need a higher amount of trust in our society than we currently do.
I've recently had discussions with my parents on why some things are shitty or why it's so hard to improve other things are and I usually just reiterate "low trust society".
There was an old study done by an Ivy League professor that effectively proved that multiculturalism and diversity is antithetical to social cohesion. His colleagues begged him to not publish it. Obvious result to us but nice to see a study with good methodology and a mountain of data backing us up. I'll see if I can find it.

I think the easiest is just to fall back to “a society” - there are societal rules that aren’t entirely based in the natural law but are still important, like what side of the road you drive on, which animals you don’t eat, etc.

Perhaps you're thinking of Robert D. Putnam of Harvard University or possibly one of his peers or students.

He wrote a rather famous book about twenty years ago called Bowling Alone.

In recent years, Putnam has been engaged in a comprehensive study of the relationship between trust within communities and their ethnic diversity.

This is all from the same stream. The website he refers to is Kiwi Farms, the person he is referring to is Montegraph, and he is being sued by Montegraph for alleging he’s a pedophile. This is why he is lolcow of the year and why DSP is dunking on him.

If you'd rather see a young, innocent life full of potential companionship turned into a smear of gore or worse than to turn on your hazards and carefully redirect a few cars into the other lane, I can't say I've got any interest in taking moral advice from you. Cowardly people who give no fucks and lack compassion for the innocent are a massive contributing factor towards the absolute state of modern parenting and the decay of humanity as a whole.

And you say "animal" as though it carries any bearing in this context; as though the average human is more innocent and worthy. Before "muh veganism", see the above post concerning human relations with dogs. He's spot on, and it applies to our historical little grain guards too.

Yup. Some of them work by using 'AI' to listen to audio (because detecting water vapor doesn't work at all lol). Supposedly they don't have video (yet).
