Sneedforo & Reactions: The Future of Stickers

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
2. Copy Discord. Just flat out copy Discord, make every Unicode character a possible reaction, and then allow custom reacts exactly like they do which show up above the generics.

I like the Discord approach aesthetically, and I think it strikes closer to your expressed preference of having all of a post's stickers visible at a glance, but blowing up the number of stickers available is going to make it cursed. one of the main things that makes the Discord reaction system fun, IMO, is having the server's custom emote stickers in the mix. the current post rating system already does this to some extent with stickers that stem from in-jokes, like Deviant, Islamic Content, Horrifying, etc. there are also a bunch of great custom emotes already on the board, like
:story: :shit-eating: :jaceknife: :coom:
and so on. just add those as reaction stickers instead of going the unicode route. I agree with the current system of not displaying user scores or reaction counts or reaction notifications. fuck all that. if you want to see how people are interacting with your post, you can go manually check it. the only exception should be if somebody's user score is massively negative in which case their account should be branded for all to see.

God no please. I don't want the Discord-ification of the internet.

Discord may be gay but it does have some good features.

I like discords approach but as other have said, I don't want 932085467 reactions occupying a good chunk of my screen. I really like the curated and unique reactions around here, perhaps you can add or remove enough to make them fit on the width of posts thus only ocupying at most a single line?

Reactions: Overly Serious
No.

One thing I might do, depending on system style and specific implementation, and bring back the Weeaboo's Post Ratings table, as below. This was something on the profile. You did not receive a score, you instead received a tally of all interactions, given and received.

I feel like seeing a ratings tally breakdown is going to encourage people to farm stickers the same way the overall react score did. Corbin kept pointing to the number of "agree" and "like" stickers he got on his posts moreso than his overall react score whenever people told him to stop spamming the Thunderdome with reddit-y posts catering to the local groupthink.

Is there a middle ground of displaying stickers the way discord does but not opening up the entire Unicode emoji library? I like the UI, but I also like that we have a more restricted set with site lore behind a lot of them.

It doesn't matter to me what changes are made, I juit want notifications back. Disable it by default, make it a site rule that you can't bitch to mods about neg reacts, whatever — I just miss that interactivity so bad (:_(

honestly, rather than stealing discords, I think I'd prefer stealing Sufficient Velocity's sticker equivalent.
no idea what the hell mod they're using for xf2 but it looks like a better version of the og mod
Can you show me what that looks like when you're selecting a rating?

Edit: Sufficient Velocity definitely rolled their own reacts. The items are referred to as "sv-" in the HTML DOM.

I feel that the current iteration of stickers is the best implementation I've seen on forums so far and I'm still not really sure why null despises them so much. Reactions being tied to thread highlights is great feature that I wish all boards had.
That's custom code. I wouldn't change how it works. I will add a way to view a condensed version of the thread so you can just scan highlights.

I'd vote for copying discord except formatted like the current reaction line and limited so you can't multi-react to a post like discord.

You never really need more than the top three sticker sentiments for a post and the list of users who reacted makes it easy to see if posts intended for a very specific audience were seen by that audience, eg

Code:
User A:
What's a 'balldo'?

User B:
> What's a 'balldo'?
<that fucking video>
(rated [horrifying] by A)

Keeping it unicode or having a very large sticker pool seems like a good idea too because people can't dickwave over imaginary reaction points if there's 3000 stickers without a clear positive/negative connotation.

That would be nice as a quick hack to fix the problem with new events not flowing to the OP. Tbh when entering a thread I'm not familiar with it would be nice to see a general recap and to also have links to the post anchors for the most recent relevant events or postings of a lolcow. I'm sure the manual work to support that model would be a nightmare though, nevermind the capacity for abuse, so this is really just a utopian dream

Navigating a large thread is very difficult but the easiest way to deal with that is the highlight system. One of the largest projects I have in mind is how I want to handle thread OPs.
