Hades 2 - now in early access

It's the black skin and Vitiligo that make the design stupid. If Hades Hestia was a elderly Greek grandma with massive amount of soot (and ditch the buck teeth) then yeah it would be pretty good interpretation of a goddesses of the hearth.
The Hestia pic doesn't have buck-teeth. It's the vitiligo on the lips making it look like she has buck-teeth.

so far ive played 15 runs 2 of which have actually gotten to the final boss, this is coming from the perspective of a roguelike master and hades 1 veteran
the game as it stands and i think unless they rework the entire thing will seriously lag behind the legacy of the original, seemingly as a direction they have drastically decided to slow down the pace of combat.
:no longer do weapons move you forward when used, this was useful for pushing attacks without stopping
:the cooldown on your dash has increased, you only start with one, you cannot dash in and out of combat as easily anymore
:instead you now have a sprint which is only really used for dodging attacks or running away.
:the cast has been reworked, now it always summons a circle that stops targets, most of the time i used this while retreating so i could just stab who ever was caught while standing still, functions as a pause button
:most glaringly, enemies have 3 times the health they had in the original, you can no longer dive into combat and expect to kill an enemies in one combo like you could in hades 1, the meta so far especially in later levels is to abuse your cast and run away while spamming your weak ranged attacks

compare game play from the two and tell me which one looks better.

the biggest change is the new mana system, now your special attacks are limited and usually require a long charge up, but are usually really powerful, however you cannot regain mana in the middle of an encounter unless you are lucky enough to get specific boons, another aspect of the game that needs serious work is rng, boons are severely underwhelming compared to hades 1 but are now way less frequent, most floors will offer you crafting recourses that wont help your runs, lots of my runs would end because i was under powered, one of the new gods powers only triggers after you use a set amount of mana so if you have no way of regaining it you're shit out of luck. my builds had much less variety and i would often rely on certain boons for a run to succeed, this wasn't the case in the first game where every build was viable, some runs will now feel so much better because of factors out of my control and i hate it

I've been playing it and the actual gameplay is fun and there are some things that I think are improvements like how the casts work and now you can charge your attacks and specials. The dash feels a bit weird, but if you get a boon that adds attacks while holding the dash it becomes pretty fun mowing down some of the weaker enemies. The new way to attack really lends itself to experimenting, which is nice.

With that said, I do not care about the characters or story at all. I find myself skipping most of the dialog just to get back to the game. I don't know if I recommend it at the full price, but if you liked how the first one played I think this one adds or improves in enough ways to at least justify a $15 price tag. Just skip the story

I’d rather fat Hestia than gooner bait anime girl.

Also I dunno about you but not buying a game because of a single character is one of the most childish, pathetic things to admit.

You can hate the Hestia design but to completely not buy the game is retarded.

Whatever, less retards into the game.
Actual great game (early beta) is released for once.
*omg that art is awful, woke devs, literally DEI
I don't understand some of you sometimes (the rest I do, the griftosphere needs fresh fuel)
Holy fuck, imagine getting mad that someone doesn't want to buy a game. Seriously, are these shill accounts from Supergiant Games' or something? :story:

I saw that you can't pause on one of the bosses because of the fucking meta meme "I am the one who controls time".
Funnily enough that's not even original considering there's a boss from the first Blasphemous that has the same no pausing gimmick, but there you don't risk having to go back to the beginning of the game since it's not a roguelite.

That makes it even worse! Luckily people are working on fixing the artwork

Isn’t Hestia usually portrayed as paradoxically young? She’s technically the oldest child of Chronos, but due to Chronos devouring them and Zeus causing him to puke them up she’s the youngest. It’s why Hades is kind of a cunt, his birthright as oldest was stolen (even though he got what he wanted).

She looks like the Giustiniani Hestia statue translated into that same, personalized, elemental color grading most of the other Gods and characters have. Like the fire and soot of the hearth I get, and when I think of a chaste matron of the home, my mind sort of translates her into almost like a pre-church nun in a habit or clothes that don't accentuate the figure at all. I dunno? I just sort of see the whole reaction from both sides of the aisle to be pretty reaching, but THEN again it is Supergiant...

I'm going with my own metric, and by that metric it's creative.
Vestal Virgins (the Roman equivalent of Hestia’s priestesses) were odd because children got picked and sequestered to be one.

The best design I could think for Hestia is a dirty servant girl. Too busy keeping the household to put on airs.

I will preface this with I've never bought Hades (it was a gift) and I'll never get the sequel. Gameplay was fine but the fact that every other god is black really annoyed me. What society worships a god that's different than them? The Egyptian gods weren't depicted as Chinese. The Chinese spirits weren't Jamaican. The only excuse I can give them is maybe they were based off the depictions on pottery but we know for a fact that's false because of the developer interviews. All of this nonsense pisses me off.
