Apparently some incredibly well-regarded, saint-like furry died the other day and I keep seeing tweets about it pop up on my timeline, for like the last two or three days now it keeps coming up with furries talking about him like he was Christ reborn on the Earth. There's a big mural for him up at FWA24 for people to write down what he meant to them or just scribble a RIP and a picture of their fursona. I'm probably a total piece of shit for even putting a post together about this, but I tend to get a little curious when somebody I've never heard of who died of completely unspecified means at a really young age is suddenly being propped up as a pillar of the community who turned water into wine and cured ailments wherever he went, so I started to look into what happened here a little bit. I don't know why I'm documenting this, but I figured it was noteworthy in some way. Maybe not to make fun of, but just as an observation into what furries consider upstanding members of their community.
The furry's name is Thomas Elwood Mayberry AKA Cypress, his Twitter account is
@cypress_etc which is, unfortunately, locked.
Here is his face.
And the
GoFundMe that was put up in his name which has pretty much reached its goal of $23,000 already.
From what I've been able to piece together, he was a 23 year old graffiti artist residing in Pittsburg, PA and was found dead in his room at the house he rented with a roommate on May 8th, 2024. Apparently, the roommate hadn't seen him in 48 hours, went into his room to check up on him and found his corpse. Most of the information I could find is sourced from first hand accounts of his best friend/unofficial boyfriend, "Poggers for Algernon", also known as
@Gollypon.
Sounds like there was some prior knowledge that he was an "at-risk youth" so to speak. He was moved to Pittsburg from New York.
Cypress loved to use spraypaint in public locations; tagging buildings, underpasses, unoccupied houses and businesses with furry artwork, his name or just letters. Apparently this is his claim to fame in the Pittsburg area. Here are some samples of his work provided by the many grieving souls of AC2024.
Beautiful homeless tent on display here too:
And here we have the mural that was erected for him at the current furry convention.
My personal favorite is this smiling nerd furry who just says RIP. The guy's name isn't Ross either. Rick Ross joke?
So given his age, talents and the overwhelming number of furries who apparently loved him, how did somebody like Thomas die so young? It's only stated in the GoFundMe that he "died suddenly", he was discovered alone in his room
days later dead on the floor and no medical reason has been given by any of the accounts who are talking about him. Most of the time when somebody dies due to factors outside of their control; cancer, heart disease, getting hit by a car, blood clot, etc, it's stated somewhere - especially on a GoFundMe. If that information is excluded, I think it's reasonable to assume that it's an ugly truth that people don't want to put out there to besmirch the dead's name. My immediate thought was drugs, and given that it's Pittsburg, probably a fentanyl overdose.
I don't follow him so I can't scrape his privated tweets, but I found this funny interaction which occurred between him and another furry less than a year ago, where Cypress appears to be arguing with a black person that drugs should not be criminalized and that the massive number of homeless drug addicts on the streets aren't a crisis facing America.
That last tweet gets a reply from some other faggot who says the following:
Oh look, there's a like and a retweet on it... wonder who did that?
Given all this information; the people he's around, the places he inhabits and the political opinions he held so importantly, I think it's safe to say he got a fucked up batch of fent and accidentally killed himself with it. Just like Jesus Christ our lord and savior, he loved getting high.
Poking around, even in the wake of his death, you can see people talking about being blocked by him and not knowing why.
There's some videos posted by "Poggers for Algernon" as well with him fucking around with shit, like trying to fit a blow-up mattress in their furry convention hotel room. He looks like a real burn out given that he's 22-23. I would guess early 30s and he's obviously not taking care of himself, he looks spun out even here with his pot-bellied homie (the one on the right is the poggers for algernon guy).
Here's a really touching piece. Pouring out a stubby Modelo for a real one and putting an Instagram filter on it. A real nigga's tribute.
Nice looking, well adjusted gentlemen. That's Cypress on the right with the furry head.
Here's conversations about a "sex room" that was hosted by him or one of his friends at a furry convention.
On the note of the sex room... He had an After Dark account which is also locked.
@cypressgodumb. I am incapable of looking through it, but what I
can do is look at people replying to his tweets. Here it sounds like he might have had chlamydia at some point recently.
He loves to fuck in a fursuit!
Uh oh! He's addicted to an unspecified drug! I wonder what kinds of dangers that poses? Probably nothing!
He was in loan debt.
So what's my point in putting all this shit up? I don't know. Some Chinese drug lab pressed a pill that accidentally had higher than expected levels of fent, sent it overseas to a Mexican drug cartel who funneled it across the border into the United States, eventually ending up in some depressed burn out druggy furry kid's system in Pittsburg and killing him. It's a shame, it's sad to see somebody die and the reactions from his almost-boyfriend are understandable, it sounds like they were really close and I can't imagine the pain he's going through losing a loved one. For some reason I just find the lionization of him very interesting. I don't think you could find any other community that would erect a young, totally burned out, in debt, drug addicted street tagger kid up on a pedestal after he overdoses.
RIP to the GOAT! May the expulsions from his cans of Ironlak never fade from behind the dumpsters of the streets of Pittsburg.
