I think most people enjoy watching shows like Caleb Hammer and Dave Ramsey because of schadenfreude about how stupid people can be with their money. Makes me feel better about a stupid purchase knowing that there are people so retarded that they make my stupid purchase look like an investment.

So, this is a thread to document all the retarded shit that you or niggercattle out in the wild do with their money that is noteworthy.

I'll start.
  • I went to a poor high school. A guy I knew collected $100+ Jordan shoes but would beg teachers for utensils saying that he couldn't afford them.
  • One of my childhood friends cashed out his 401k to NEET for a year because he thought it was money that his previous company owed him.
  • Another one of my friends was down bad for a month or two, and couldn't even afford car payments, so his vehicle got repo'd. Well, like two weeks after that, he comes over shows off his galaxy flip phone which was like $2k.
  • A guy I was acquaintances with when i used to play some Korean mmo casually mentioned that he was dropping all of his student loan money into the game.

A guy I know got laid off a few months ago. He had a pretty well-paying job.

He hasn't gone on unemployment, because he has severance and savings.

Literally leaving thousands of dollars at the table.

In the past year or so I've convince two other people with the same mentality to go on unemployment. They wouldn't have otherwise.

It's weird.

When you leave your job. This is the worst of your options, which also include:
- Keep it in your old plan (if you like the funds, good idea to check the management fees)
- Roll it to a new one (if it has better options or you want to consolidate)
- Roll it into an IRA (gives you a lot more options than the dozen or whatever funds your company offers, gives you the option to convert to a Roth and take the tax hit now vs. later)

Cashing out will hit you with income taxes plus a 10% early withdrawal penalty, on top of derailing your savings.

Have friends who were struggling to pay bills but order take out 4 times a week. Everybody has to eat, everybody should know how to cook.
Know people who use Uber eats / GoPuff delivery service to have a single pint of ice cream delivered for a huge premium.
My worst habit is "poor man pays twice." I buy older camera lenses, use them a few times, but a newer version, never sell the old one.

Currently got money issues due to health issues. Gotta spend wisely.
Here's how it be.
You're gonna get real good friends with rice and pasta.
Potato and god permitting eggs are easy meal supplements.
Summer sausage and hot sauce are very good meal enhancements.
Boil macaroni then fry it, it gives it a different texture and confuses your body so you're not eating the same thing.
Apples.
Fast food is now a scam. Nobody has a dollar menu.
Cup noodles+ sausage+ egg. Dinner meal.
I live off about 60 dollar meal budget, and I don't hate myself, eat pretty well.

A dude in my village flips cars for a living. He's a genius when it comes to cars and how to fix them but he's a fucking retard in every other sense. I've only recently found out how insane his profit margins are after talking to him and the dude is so fucking retarded even he doesn't realize how much money he makes. This is a corrupt shithole Eastern European country I'm talking about and he clears more in a year than a minister (and that includes bribes). He lives in a small run down house that reeks of mold, wears old cheap shitty shabby clothes and eats fucking canned fish and beans when he could've easily have been set himself and his grandchildren up to not worry about anything. Even without investing the money, just by doing what he's doing until retirement.

So what the fuck is his problem?
Alcohol.
Whores.
Gambling.

He squanders 90% of what he makes on that, no exaggeration, which is why he lives like someone who is below the poverty line.

The US Army is an entire organization of these people.

Get paid 2-3k a month.
Spend it on Jordans.
Spend it on video games.
Spend it on alcohol.
Lots of alcohol.
Liver-failing amounts.
Spend it at the bars and clubs off post trying to pick up 3/10s.
Spend it on Dodge Chargers/Mustangs with a 32% APR.
Get married at 18 and marry your HS sweetheart.
She gets fat, spending your money on food for her disgusting eating habits.
Slides two to three little shits you have to care for.
One of them may not be yours.
Congrats! You're trapped in the Army because its a stable money flow and you can't escape. Kill yourself or feel self-hatred for the rest of your life.

I saved my money by having only $500 in my checking account and saved everything else when paycheck hit. Then I get asked by people older than me, completely baffled, how I have so much money now.
I fucking hate the military.

Should have "Aimed High".
While I did see this behavior in the USAF, its much less common. The Air Force does a slightly better job of weeding out the dumbasses.

Get deployed
Get a fat paycheck
Redeploy back to home base
Buy a sports car and videogames
Be a financial fuckup
Car gets reposed
Deploy again
Repeat

Fucking Army!
