The stump pics posted on the 7th: are those recent? I thought I remember something similar posted last year along with an update from her sister saying the rest of that leg was being removed due to a persistent bone infection.

Seeing people mention hemicorporectomy will never fail to remind me of the time I got into an elevator at a VA hospital and a man wheeled into the elevator who had been unfortunate enough to have ended up with a hemicorporectomy. I was a teenager who had never seen anything remotely like that, and it was all I could do to not stare while my mouth went dry. It's genuinely a very fucked up thing to see in the flesh.

I definitely wonder how far she is going to be able to push this. Whatever is happening in her brain is so beyond the normal types of fucked up that self-harmers get that she should be studied for years to understand what made this happen.

She’s not someone “going through a rough patch” and needing to learn coping skills, or as soon as the meds kick in she’ll be sane. Using up a psych bed with direct, round the clock supervision for the rest of her life is retarded. There are no psych meds or therapy or procedures that are going to fix her brain, and honestly, if she did get sane, she’d probably take a long look at what she has done to herself and commit suicide.

People who have cancer or accidents and have amputations and deformities don’t blame themselves,they learn to get on the way they are. Not to mention that there aren't any meds that help personality disorders like this. Meds can be used along with intensive therapy but the patient has to be proactive and have the desire to get well. She would have been institutionalized several decades ago but all of those policies have changed. It would be better for her health but she'd be one of those patients that live a nightmare in straightjackets locked on a stretcher in a padded room, and no doubt she'd still find a way to harm herself even then.

IIRC she was committed back when she made those deep cuts on her arms, because that’s clearly her being a danger to herself.
