WhatifAltHist / Rudyard Lynch - History youtuber, galaxy brained, no credentials and no sex

He keeps on spiraling down.
At the same time, he's doing very well. You can't exactly say he's bigger than ever as a handful of his old style althistory/future history* videos have over a million views and none of his recent videos have quite cracked that, but he very consistently getting 200k+ views. The USA Civil War video has over 3M. Engagement is super high as well. To use his own autistic measuring tape, he is referenced with adulation by many similarly minded people and pseudo thinktanks on the internet. The fact is there are lots of people affirming his presumptions of visionary status even as we mock them.

But yeah, it seems his mental state is spiraling down. Personally, I think this is a great combination. Increased measurable success combined with decreasing sanity can only mean more lulz.

*I'm making a distinction between his more recent predictive videos and older ones. Despite the channel name he has always done videos on 'How the next big war will happen' and 'These countries won't exist by 2100', but the style is very different from recent speculative videos.

He's sperging on twitter.

The reason I love watching this kid is because it’s literally this meme:

On one hand, he can grow up, get some gash, and take these ideas and make something with them that’s not retarded. On the other, he can go so far up his own ass that Junji Ito would use his contorted form as inspiration.
As of now, he’s hilarious because it’s like talking politics and history with your younger cousin who is smart but never went outside as a kid.

You put into words something I've felt for a long time now.

Rudy is starting to remind me of that political juice guy, if anyone remembers his channel. He got big off his gimmick, read so much politics he gave himself a personal epistemological crisis, then supposedly got groomed into joining a neocon think tank and has never resurfaced.

Yeah he had a complete meltdown and refused to tolerate people reuploading his deleted videos. He had a habit of deleting them bit by bit until eventually he turned on his own audience and disappeared.

I actually kinda snapped at the "The world, especially your own kind, hates you and wants you dead" bit in his "Message to Young Men". It's as though he has the mentality of a school shooter.

Then there was the funny bit where his video on Incels got taken down, he did a reupload with a giant whine at the start of it (crying about how it would be war if the reupload got taken down), and then the original video got put back up... what, an hour later? Either that was really bad timing, or Rudyard has a persecution complex.

Also, some of his History 102 takes are weird and misinformed. I was watching a bunch of TIKHistory at the time Rudyard's WW2 video came out, so I cringed out of my skin at some of the stuff in that stream.

Rhetoric like that is what radicalizes the lonely and disaffected. Tell them that it's hopeless and their problems are entirely the fault of someone and something else and they'll listen.

I see takes like this circulate in the thread all the time. Some people have the idea that Rudyard is young and inexperienced and one day he may figure it out.

It's never going to happen because Rudyard straight up AVOIDS meaningful intellectual experiences.

He dropped out of college because he couldn't handle his worldview being challenged. He disdains academics because he doesn't value specialization or researchers who cover one topic in depth. He's uncomfortable admitting that history is too deep to know entirely, so he copes along with a bad, broad knowledge of everything. All breadth, no depth. Watch any video and you'll hear him say something like "I realized that this was the way the world worked when I was a child". He thinks this is a flex, showing him to be wise beyond his years. It actually only speaks to his stunted thought. His brain is still trapped in highschool.

And then there's the most egregious issue. Rudyard has hundreds of books on his shelf, but he can't absorb information from any of them. If you've read any of the books which Rudyard claims to have studied, you'll know how often he fucks up basic information and premises. For example, it was just earlier this week that he plugged John Keay's history of India. Despite owning half a dozen books on India, Rudyard makes day one mistakes in his analysis of Indic religion, such as conflating the duties of Vedic Brahmans and later monastics. The impression he got from The End of History and the Last Man was that Fukuyama doesn't think history in the 21st century will be worth recording. Delusional.

Rudyard isn't going to turn things around. He's literally getting worse with every video. But tbh I prefer this direction!
