I'm going to ask a very dumb question. What do the various YouTube "dings" mean, and what consequences do they carry? By that, I mean that I know a video can be taken down for (1) TOS violations, (2) copyright claims, (3) personal information, but I no longer understand what weight they carry (by that, I mean, in the past, 3 strikes/claims would generally suspend your channel, which no longer seems to be the case?)
Of the three, I understand that YouTube itself may issue a TOS violation but probably would not initiate the other two. In theory, therefore, Yaba's suspension may have nothing to do with the anti-Haydurs (despite the Dill Doe's tweet). Having said that, the TOS violation could follow from an outside claim (e.g., Dill Doe making YouTube aware of a potential TOS violation). Is the TOS violation the only one that still carries a mandatory suspension?
Yaba's been striking (primarily) GG for copyright and personal information. Copyright, I get. Someone is using your material in a non-transformative way (so you perceive), you file a claim, the video is removed, you promise to initiate legal proceedings. If you fail to initiate proceedings, the strike is lifted, and if you do this enough -- in theory -- YouTube stops taking your claims seriously (this was, at least, the argument made as to why Chantal pivoted from copyright to bullying/harrassment claims). I believe Yaba initiated one copyright strike against GG. I can't imagine she will take him to court, and I imagine the strike will ultimately expire.
The personal information claim -- in this community, anyway -- I don't understand at all. This community is predicated on the personal. Yaba has shown her face, stated her name (perhaps not in a single video/stream), connected her YouTube to other social media (which also shows that information), detailed her life. Ditto, Sam (she may have changed the channel name to Tefler but the the email still directs to Telfer), FFG, Chantal, etc. If you volunteer the information -- particularly if you utilize it to build your platform/brand -- how is it still "private" information?
Is this simply a preemptive, protective (i.e., CYA) move by YouTube?
I also understand that Yaba/AK/whoever is doing this simply to limit someone's ability to earn income. Maybe (probably) that's all it is. Yaba referenced this in her recent stream with Sam and said you will never win against an avalanche of claims (I believe she said she's still got a strike of some sort from Nader).
So what happens if YouTube is, at best, "fun money" (probably what it was supposed to be to begin with?) What happens if someone is willing to wait out the strikes/suspensions/appeals and prevails? It's very interesting to me that Sam can go live and hasn't. I have 2 theories: (1) if Yaba is not allowed to do something, Sam doesn't get to (most likely); (2) Yaba's recent outburst has effectively killed Sam's channel (even if Belinda/GG/Hussy/Peanut don't strike, what if an audience member does?)
Looking forward to Yaba's return on Wednesday (according to her tweets). Unrelated, working on the next FFG installment. I'm asserting that she's not an immigrant.
