Being an athlete doesn't require anything above a room temperature IQ. And even that is more of a suggestion when dealing Joggers.
Here's a funny anecdote from the NFL: football players bang their heads so much that they get brain damage. The way that doctors assess brain damage is basically by giving them an IQ test. Most football players are black, and black people have a lower average IQ.
So a black, retired football player goes to a doctor and the doctor says, "welp, your IQ is 80, but because you're black you probably started at 80, so you don't have brain damage" <--- and that means no insurance settlement from the NFL.
Well, you can probably guess that once the word got out that's what the NFL was doing, they were in big trouble. They caved (of course) and have removed any consideration of race from the cognitive evaluation.
...and hilariously, that means probably 90% of black football players will test positive for brain injury.
...and since we live in clown world, no one is ever going to correct that mistake. In a few years, someone will notice that a larger percentage of black football players are diagnosed with dementia, and they'll explain that discrepancy using the only racial difference they are allowed to explain anything with: RACISM!!!
Which means you can expect to see stories about how the NFL is somehow (but nobody is ever sure exactly how) racist because they are somehow giving their black players brain damage.
What's really going to be funny is when they start testing them before signing them to play. They still wont admit they start with a lower IQ. They'll just kick the can down to colleges. "ZOMG THESE BLACK PLAYERS ARE SHOWING UP WITH BRAIN DAMAGE!! IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED IN COLLEGE!!"
Then the colleges will test them and go, "OMG!!! THESE BLACK PLAYERS ARE SHOWING UP WITH BRAIN DAMAGE!!! IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!"
Then the high schools will do it and blame it on the middle schools.
So what's the story here? Did two school girls really find new mathematical proofs of Pythagoras theorem, or is this a bunch of hype like the list of black inventors?

Here's what I've gleaned from various sources:
(1) their proof is likely correct (i.e. the story is not complete bullshit)
(2) their proof isn't groundbreaking. In fact, there are hundreds of different ways to prove the Pythagoras theorem. This wiki page has a few of them:

Taken together, this certainly makes them worthy of kudos for being bright high school kids. Their race just means that what would otherwise be a pat on the head and encouragement to keep it up, becomes a national news story.
