Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

In my opinion, you can tell that same story but much better about someone who did real things of note. Jules Brunet or any of the other Frenchmen who joined the Shogunate in its last days.
I doubt when people were asking for years for an asscreed in japan, they wanted to play a white (or black) dude. there's literally no logical reason why the cool assassin shit can't be done by someone japanese. fuck you could even add a cute female for coomer bonus AND make the templars the evil white invaders.

literally one job, but ubisoft never disappoints :story:

Yeah, he wasn’t the norm, that’s why he stands out. It is why people know about him.

I don’t get what you mean by portraying him as normal. He existed. We have evidence that he was in Japan.

By "portraying him as normal," I mean portraying him as not being outside the norm. And, as others have mentioned, there's so little information about him, and he did so little of note, that the only reason to center a story on him is to push The Message. He isn't notable for his legendary deeds. He's notable because he was a negro in a country with no negroes.

It's one of those things I miss in current year, along with the "woman warrior in a world where that's not a common thing" trope.

I'm completely over women warriors. Women aren't strong and fast. There are really only two reasons to have an ass-kicking female protagonist. Cheesecake, like old Tomb Raider, or The Message, like new Tomb Raider.

That’s what makes them great. Even at their strongest, a well written female warrior would still have to fight smarter than their spear counterparts, and would still have other problems to deal with that men generally don’t. Their bodies will ache once a month, their enemies (and occasionally comrades) will see them as rape bait, and they would generally be seen as lesser warriors (something any sane person would agree with, mind- look how much lower women’s standards are for the US military).

Of course, don’t expect anyone to acknowledge these facts in modern fiction. That’s haram in current day.

They don't even have to be well-written. The #1 reason for female characters in TTRPGs is, "there's a woman at the table, and she wants to play as a woman character." That's fine. It really is. Games are supposed to be fun.

In video games, it was never about telling a good story. It used to be because teenage boys like to see big boobs and butts. Now it's because [feminist wall of text]. The first reason was more legitimate.

HECKING CHUDDERINO ALERT!
For those of you who arent twitter-pozzed, there has been some really funny drama going on with independant wargame, Trench Crusade
https://archive.ph/HPqvt
Its a skrimish wargame based on an art project where the forces of heaven and hell battle it out in debased and brutal ways, with both sides being mutilated husks relying on zealotry, ultra-violence, and hellish or holy magicks in an alt WW1 between the forces of heaven and hell fought on earth. The game just had a successful kickstarter and is being designed by one of the OG designers of Mordheim, from Warhammer fame

The Game got viral due to a tweet where someone offers it as a viable alternative to warhammer, getting very popular on twitter and noticed by even normies due to the striking imagery, but what many who just liked the post and moved on didnt noticed, the OP is a filthy fucking CHUD
GBVbHEe.png

And as one might notice in the Trench Crusade site, their main form of contact is a DISCORD, and everyone knows where this is going
The discord was hosted by a community called 28 magazine, a "zine" based on 28mm miniatures
https://archive.ph/hqoGG
and as many have guessed, its pretty pozzed, anything with a discord does, so the discord went into lock-down after le siege of the meanie rightiecucks fleeing the hecking chudhammer menace
Some have been banned just for thinking the wholesome Aztecs should fight on the forces of hell

Em0ohpZ.png

But the fever pitch increased to people gatting banned out of asking mere questions about why were people being banned

k8huZ7n.png

As one might have guessed, a bunch of boomers dont know how to handle the discord, so they just posted a milquetoast post about how they agree with any and all actions that the 28 team does in the discord

Only time will tell if something as fragile as this community covering very charged imagery like gore and religion will crumble under itself due to a critical mass of discord mods

God, that sucks. I've been seeing a lot of kitbashes and fanart for Trench Crusade and I was actually interested in it based on the aesthetics and themes, but of course it's already overrun with power-tripping dickhead Discordites.

Yeah, there’s already a bunch of people already cheering them on for doing anything to sabotage their brand as long as the “stick it to the heckin chuds”. None of them will actually pick it up and play.

They already had succesful buzz inside their discord and a succesful kickstarter so the core will come out even with the accidental sabotage
Any further developments have a high chance of being DoA and the community seems pretty happy to "gatekeep" anyone they deem a chud (aka people they personally dislike) so its probably on life support though

A single tweet, amazing

They were banning people based on vibes they got from them. One successful kickstarter is usually the most many of these companies will wind up getting, so it’s not unfair to say their future endeavors will be DoA. As much as I liked a lot of the aspects of the game, there’s no way it’d be able to take over and replace 40K players. Like I said in the 40K thread, it’ll have a thread somewhere like dakkadakka, get 3 pages and be pushed back by new threads and bumped ones.

Has anyone gone through their playtest rules, anyway? I think people were expecting it to be 40k-style force-on-force action but it's a warband-style game instead. I suppose it's better for lowering the barrier of entry (same reason BattleTech is doing well, you can play the game with only 4 models per side), but it's not a kind of wargame that's ever been all that popular.

Here’s a PDF of the sample core rulebook lore sampler because im retarded and thought I had the actual rulebook. Personally I like the lance/star/level structure of classic Battletech.

yeah its explicitly a skirmish wargame, its designed by one of the OG Mordheim guys (which was also a skirmish wargame), i think if anything more lower scale affairs can be enticiing due to the lower barrier of play, but its true that eventually theres a cap on how much people play it

It's like people haven't learned shit from Mighty No. 9 and the more recent thing with Helldivers. Nothing will kill goodwill and interest faster than a "community manager" who gets high on their own self-importance and starts shitting all over people.

People forget that going "ugh, chuds" doesnt actually paint you as very mature or trustworthy even to normies that are either netural or even hate right wingers too, also to people who are tired of online balkanization

Edit; Trench Crusade has removed the 28 Discord from their official webpage, apparently the 28 people will create a separate discord, it will still be the same community so no real change there besides segregating it from their gay zine discord

Troons and Discord, the combination that kills any community and IP it touches

Media literacy faggots are not known to be very smart people.
This is a joke, right? The original King Kong was from 1933. Emmett Till wasn't even born yet.

I usually just ignored that for the purposes of the game, with obvious exceptions like female Kzinti couldn't be PCs (they are canonically not even sapient).

"This game is about a brutal European war set in an alternate universe where the traditional Christian cosmology manifests itself in concrete ways. Wait, what, conservatives want to play this game?"

Anyone have advice for replacing players in a higher level party? One of the players in my Darksun game had to stop playing very suddenly. Now I've only got 3 players and the party is at level 10. I've considered using a DMPC in the mean time, but I really don't like doing that as I feel it takes away from the players and it's more book keeping for me.

I mean, even a brief glance at the art tells you that the Christian side has gone to a dark path in order to survive. For instance, a gas mask wearing priest with a shotgun and a shield with a crucifix and nailed hands on it.

That’s very grim and gothic, which is cool, but not necessarily what I would call Christian. No peace on earth and universal brotherhood when there’s a war going on.

That being said, I’d love to see what Trench Crusade has cooked up for grimdark medieval Judaism. Kabbalists casting spells from ancient scrolls that destroy demons by rendering them illegal by Talmudic law. Mobile Temples which burn and harvest the dead as burnt offerings to the Lord. Rabbinical Mountain Jews riding on horseback. And the most terrifying unit, nagging Jewish mothers wondering why you haven’t married yet and why you never became a doctor like that nice boy down the street.
