Longtime lurker. Watched the new video. It's the same seething resentment as always, but now papered over with tropes from the new rebrand: Olly is a loving and caring parent-figure to his friends, a perfect auntie to his nieces, fair to his critics beyond his moral obligation, a genius of emotional intelligence. He plays at imaginative empathy, trying to puzzle out why people disagree with him. His conclusion is that they've "failed to listen" out of willed self-delusion borne from some personalized trauma.
People were speculating that there'd be a lot of psychological juice wringable out of the Abigail-confronts-her-past-self storyline, but there isn't. There is no texture of anything lived here, just a mess of warmed-over babble about "living your life the way you want." It's like the video he made about his supposedly abusive ex, I get the sense that the script is so pored over that anything real has been regulated out.
Choob has chosen to beat the narcissism allegations by writing a fruity little skit that culminates in him passionately declaring his love for...himself.

That face looks so creepy it's like a fag version of Jesus in some shitty Bible play where the actor is wearing silicone and jaw implants to get the long chin. In other words trans I guess.

I only made it to the first little "Choob interviews himself" segment and actually had to close my laptop from cringe. Ollie's outdone himself on this one, this may actually be the worst thing he's ever made.
Once you get past the cringe it's kinda just real boring, though there is one point where he's trying to emphasise with JK Rowling and he said something like "I am also a woman who experienced an abusive relationship" that made me burst out laughing
Also, check out the curves on this thot:
So sexy, hourglass figure to die for, men must go gaga when they see her

Olly's "self"-interview is pretty manic in places.
At around the 56 minute mark, he tells himself "We become an aunty!" For this narcissist, a sibling having a kid isn't a life development for the sibling, who now has the responsibility for raising a child. Instead, it's an affirming achievement of Olly's -- who, y'know, hasn't actually done anything -- and they both do some blubbing about how great they are at it.
I also liked it when his past-self says around 27 minutes "This is going to fuck up our career", to which Olly replies "on the contrary...." I'm told that a total lack of self-awareness is pretty much a staple of narcissism. Olly, you never had a career. You can't act for shit and you're no good at philosophy. You trooned out to get a career as a diversity hire.
If you don't want to trawl through the video, I fished out the Choob on Choob segment.
It's about 10 minutes long. I'll let it speak for itself, it's a breath-taking work of overacting and narcissism.
In terms of the actual content of his phantasms video?
The first part of the video is a decent summary of Butler's arguments around the performativity of gender - this is pretty 101 stuff for gender arguments on YouTube so I'll skip over most of it - for once I'll begrudgingly admit I won't be more succinct than Ollie. He then touches on (as predicted) that false assumptions around the female sex have been presented as biological reality in order to further patriarchal oppression (e.g. "women are mentally weaker than men and should not be educated"); ergo you cannot talk about sex other than through a lens of gender (hence use of terms like "sex/gender" or "sex/gender/race" because these arguments also apply to race).
One of the key arguments is that while there is a physical reality (a penis is objectively a penis), the physical reality can only be known through our social reality and all the baggage that comes with it (a penis is associated with male sexual violence). So in other words, you can't experience the objective reality of someone being a male without all the associations you have with what a male is (although Ollie then does insist that after taking HRT the penis "essentially becomes a large clitoris") and at the same time people are using their cultural associations of a penis with male violence and penetrative sex to label pre-op trans women a threat needing to put in male prisons if they commit a crime, without listening to the experiences of those pre-op trans women who know more about how women have penises. Therefore putting trans women in male prisons is similar to putting brown people in Guantanamo Bay. The "abjectification" of trans women is analagous to the mechanisms going on around the genocide of Palestinian civillians (not so much dehumanisation but marking them as bad people).
This then moves on to Butler's recent book. Arguments about gender ideology assume the inverse arguments around biological sex are not themselves ideologies and are somehow objective. Also, TRA are labelled subversive and so different countries have different ideas about why gender ideology is bad. There are many different ideological perspectives who are anti-gender, starting off with the Catholic church. Piotr Skarga is a far right Catholic group that raises money through selling Catholic doo-dads and uses it to fight back against "gender ideology" (which also includes being anti-abortion and homophobic).
The argument that gender ideology is being pushed on innocent people by shadowy elites sounds like classic antisemetism, but not all gender crits are anti-semetic; they just both engage in abjectification. Like Jews in pre-war Eastern Europe, gays (and trans people) are considered profane, offensive and blamed for getting attacked by making themselves too conspicuous. Trans people are both Palestinians in Gaza and Jews in Nazi Germany! Gender crits don't listen, and when they're invited to listen to trans people explain reality to them, it makes them feel like they're under attack. That's because of phantasms.
Phantasms are a way of using cognitive dissonance in the face of anxiety, projecting their emotions outward to turn "as if" into "as so" - "A trans woman with a penis in the women's toilet makes me feel as if I am under attack" becomes "A trans woman with a penis in the women's toilet means I am under attack". Phantasms are how we deal with death - wanting to be buried somewhere with a nice view, even though you won't be there to enjoy it, because you're acting as if you'd still sort of be around and so mentally you think "I will still be around".
Phantasms don't make logical sense and often involve a lot of contradictory claims, and people will react defensively when challenged on them because they're trying really hard not to think something. The anti-gender phantasm may be an attempt to criticise the effects of capitalism without acknowledging capitalism as the problem. "Anti-genderism is the socialism of fools, and the feminism of fools, and the anti-colonialism". Therefore when people say sex is binary, they're not stating fact, they're making a demand. When they say you can't change sex, they mean you shouldn't be allowed to. They want morally righteous violence to restore an imaginary order because they're anxious about real problems that they can't or won't think about, so they take it out on trans people.
Ollie then explores how to address the political situation. If you're Catholic you should boycott Piotr Skarga. People who work in media should talk about anti-genderists the same way they talk about anti-vaxxers (i.e. "JK Rowling says sex is binary, which is wrong and she's only saying it because she's mentally ill"). Also we should take note that a lot of right wingers are criticising capitalism, even if they don't realise it.
Can we reach people stuck in phantasms? Well, education probably won't help because the movement is not only irrational but anti-rational - many members of the anti-gender movement will proudly refuse to read academic books on gender theory that would help them understand. They feel that listening is an act of submission. It is really sad that these people won't become the person they could become if they just listened.
Ollie's argument fails to account for people like me who have read and understood complex gender theory (including Judith Butler)... and still disagree (and indeed broadly used to agree until I started considering other perspectives and making my own observations). The phantasm that Ollie is trapped in is that his viewpoint is objectively the correct one, and that anyone who disagrees with him must essentially be delusional and refusing to accept objective reality, instead lashing out because they're scared of capitalism and misattributing blame onto trans people.
It's one of the classic falling down points of a lot of these arguments - Judith Butler herself is smart enough (in an obtuse academic way) not to fall into the obvious trap, but most of her stans including Ollie aren't. Gender is a social construct. Sex is a social construct. Apple trees are social constructs. Everything is a social construct, because even with material reality we must construct meaning of objective phenomena to understand them, as we can only observe them through our own subjective lens. The concept of social constructs is a social construct. Just because something is a social construct does not mean it is automatically invalid. Most of what Ollie complains about people "not listening" is not people failing to understand that biological sex is blah blah blah, it's more them disagreeing that just because you can argue for the Balkanisation of sex into a variety of associated but discrete characteristics (chromosomal sex, hormonal sex, phenotypic sex, legal sex) does not mean that doing so is a superior model for understanding sex compared to grouping all those traits together into one concept of biological sex. It's just the version of understanding that he prefers because he likes it better.
It also ignores that fact that he (and others) don't listen. He makes a show of "trying to understand" other viewpoints in this video, but continues to disagree with them (but the inverse is a phantasm). Arguing that someone uncomfortable with a trans woman in a female prison "because they view the penis with the cultural baggage of male sexual violence, without listening to trans women" is in itself not listening to people saying "trans women in female prisons are a physical threat to vulnerable female prisoners even if they don't intend to be, because they are physically stronger, and also an extremely high percentage of trans women prisoners are sexually violent (far more than the percentage for even cis male prisoners)".
I'd also wryly note that Ollie's interview with a tranpire doesn't really have much to do with a phantasm at all. Past Ollie is not trapped in a phantasm, he's mostly freaking out that he's going to transition and feeling uncomfortable/worried about it, which is not the same as having an anti-rational viewpoint that's contradictory and illogical. It transpires from captions his original plan was to interview Judith Butler (and was talking to her publicist) but it didn't work out.
Apart from being extremely repulsive, and embarrassing for him to admit, this isn't a very good point as I'm sure there are lots of impotent men who commit sex crimes.
Interesting that he went there, because it seemed to me that he was being very silent on the Israel/Palestine issue, even though he's very much a keffiyeh-wearing type. I assumed this was because he doesn't want to seem to be involved in any controversy for the sake of his acting career.
"A trans woman with a penis in the women's toilet makes me feel as if I am under attack" becomes "A trans woman with a penis in the women's toilet means I am under attack".
And presumably any actual attacks by transwomen on real women in public toilets also just come down to silly females getting too wrapped up in their little phantasms.
I find this very manipulative and sinister. It's the reason so many otherwise sane people have deluded themselves into siding with the troons.
"I can't possibly be legitimately worried about something so obviously nonsensical and immoral. The problem must be me. I'm the one who's crazy for seeing a hideous man in a dress when I should be seeing a beautiful woman. I must re-educate myself until I stop believing my own eyes."
This can and should be viewed as a psychological study case in overcompensating to cover up personal insecurities. Observe how cool he thinks he is, sitting cross-legged on the chair, cracking open a beer and stuffing his face with petites madeleines as his uptight former self sits ramrod-straight, nervously clutching a glass of water. And his dad definitely isn't embarrassed about his crossdressing son. How could you even think that, silly former Olly? And why, of course I look like a young, sexy goddess now - transitioning automatically means you become your fantasy woman, and I'm so, so, so, so, so, so, definitely authentically HAPPY now
And isn't it amazing that after spending lots of money at a 'voice lab', I totally sound like a real woman now? My voice is completely unrecognisable! It definitely doesn't sound exactly like it did before!
But also I'm sad sometimes toobecause when you look as perfect as I do, men become so desperate to fuck me they're basically tearing off my clothes in the street, and I as a frail, dainty little 6'1" girl get pushed around and interrupted all the time...
Fake Olly's acting ability also far exceeds his own. How humiliating.
Can we address this bit? The weird repetition of this bizarre noise that he makes. Was that a deliberate choice? Or a mistake in the editing? I mean, Olly being Olly, he has to micromanage every aspect of his image, so it's very odd he would leave a mistake in? Why did he loop it?
The Reeeing of the Troon.
Can you still hear him, Clarice? Has the troon stopped reeeing?
I don't know that this is the plug Seattle Voice Lab were looking for, given he just sounds like a particularly catty privately educated gay man, and on no day of the week could be mistaken for a woman.

Ah, that's because it was chopped up into a lot of little segments that I had to string together, and he starts that segment with a bit he'd already show. I got lazy smushing them back together.
