Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Horikoshi kept hammering how "saving" Shigaraki is super important. This of course caused drama with fans insisting this is good because a character said you can save people by killing them which is absolutely retarded logic, and fans are throwing temper tantrums that anyone dislikes this.
I just generally didn't like the whole "Deku wants to save Shigaraki" plotline at all. Especially when Deku's idea of "saving" him amounted to "Hey, you remember that one part of Shippuden when Naruto goes into Obito's mind? Let's do that in my manga because I, Kohei Horikoshi, am an unironic fan of Obito Uchiha and think he really was the Coolest Guy!". So good fucking riddance. I really wish Hori hadn't tried to frame Shiggy as any kind of victim of AFO, I liked him best as an example of a villain who fell through the cracks of hero society to embrace destruction and as Deku's archenemy on a parallel villain's journey.

Yeah like the thing with the saving Shigaraki plotline that gets me is AFO being the main villain, since Hori just did it so he can do the "save Shiggy" plotline without addressing any of Shigaraki's baggage. A better writer probably could've just had Deku come to terms he can't save someone or save as many people as possible from Shigaraki's destruction. It doesn't help that Deku and Shigaraki have no chemistry with each other since the only time they talked was the mall scene and their dynamic relies on parallels. Ochako and Shoto have better dynamics with their villains and its hilarious how there is more depth to it than the main protagonist and main villain.

But I am going to bet that if Shigaraki doesn't die for good, Horikoshi will rip off Full Metal Alchemist and use bullshit to make Shigaraki a child or rather "Tenko" and try to do the stupid "this time he will be raised right" trope.

Even watched the first episode of the series. Going away from 4:3 resolution was a mistake, and you can see how less raunchy and safe the series used to be (plus using a way darker Post Pokemon epilepsy scare colouring).

I'll definitely miss the show, as I watched at least one episode since October. Not all the arcs were good, but there were more good episodes than bad, and when the show was great it was fucking fantastic. It repeated itself way too much in the end, but never lost its way or the occasional sheer retardation that makes it so entertaining. Kinda wish that at least Hasegawa got back to his wife.

"Anime fans" who are into "media literacy" and insist that Kill La Kill was some sort of feminist work or something: "KLK was making fun of "fanservice" and was about how it's actually bad and you nerds too stupid and media illiterate to grasp that"
That gives me an idea... I wonder if I can get that breast expansion samurai show licensed by convincing the soy-based companies of commiefornia that the plot is actually totally feminist. "Because it's all about a strong-willed and independent lesbian fighting against the boob-obsessed patriarchal standards of her feudal Japanese society. It just so happens that she fights by taking other women's tits into her own busom and occasionally there is aggressive skinship between the endowed women female warriors... which is 100% on-point feminism and in no way sexually stimulating to men, I swear".

This might just be a bait and switch, but if Fojo really comes back then it will be the definite proof that gege doesn't give a shit at all.

Fairy ranmaru
How is this my first time seeing this monstrosity? You'd think that the troons and qweers would be all over this shit. If this wasn't made specifically for a Western audience, I'll eat my keyboard raw.

It was made for jap women shockingly, probably why it flew under the radar. Iirc they get stuff by fixing woman problems and making them swoon.

Heads up, the manga continues longer than the anime ran for. Might get your answer there.

GTO was definitely kino. Was so glad it showed up on Netflix.
The manga also starts before the anime. The anime skipped the entire first volume before Onizuka lands the teacher gig. Really stupid choice since it's the part where they establish his character, him being a former delinquent biker, karate teacher and more.

I mean, technically there are also two series about Onizuka before GTO, the first being Shonan Junai Gumi at 31 volumes long and Bad Company which is one volume. There's a 5 episode OAV, 5 episode drama, and a live action movie between them.

It's basically Shonan Junai Gumi with Bad Company being a flashback in it. But the OAV only adapted like 5% of it.
It's easy to read or watch GTO since these two series are fairly disconnected from each other (some legacy SJG characters have a few moments but nothing major) but removing Onizuka's introduction removes a lot of the weight of his career path, you don't see him struggle or consider another path.

The creators of KLK:

Kill la Kill is actually fun and creative, and most serious “artsy” types despise the fun and creative. If it’s not a part of a Culture War or intentionally making women look ugly, then it’s not art to their eyes.

KLK I wonder is just another victim of the hypetrain, which makes it prime for this type of criticism. It also came out right as SJWs were getting more prevalent and beginning to crawl out of containment, and they were looking for any signs of hardcore lesbianisn in anime. They were so desperate to paint KLK as feminist propaganda they were somewhat willing to overlook the blatant fanservice since the whole point of the transformation was to embrace nakedness. I knew more lesbians into the show than those who despised it, and this was on Tumblr alone.

Gurren Lagann came out at the right time, just before SJWs took over. That show would've been creamed had it come out years later, nowadays it's too much of a sacred cow to escape backlash unscathed should you so much as criticize it. Kill la Kill was (rightfully) seen as the female version of it, so the hypetrain made it stronger.

I'm glad people still look back fondly on it because that was some of the best 24 weeks I ever had, I'm just annoyed to see the culture war soldiers who tolerated it ten years ago have only recently decided they never liked it, to the point the creators had to even make a "no duh" statement now. I hope this isn't a sign of shit to come from Panty & Stocking season two (which typically gets a pass from the usual suspects anyway).

No idea where to put this. It's an new episode of an abridged series, but it's not from the TFS clique:
Honestly Project Mouthwash is probably one of the few groups that manage to actually make good Abridged Series. Since its clear this is made with actual respect to the source material rather than an attempt to replace it like what TFS does
