Going through this thread, I'm noticing something. One side is debating against this change with reasons and explanations for why the changes is dumb and makes no sense. The other side is just saying "why do you care?" and is being completely dismissive while offering zero points of their own. Only one side is willing to actually engage the conversation in a seemingly good faith effort and it's the side that is against the change. Really says everything you need to know. But to those saying "it's just a game, why do you care?", it's because I think games of all kinds are art and should be preserved as they were created. "Art is never finished, but abandoned" after all. Imagine of classic paintings were "remade for modern audiences".

Don't think my argument earlier counts, but I still agree with the general sentiment shared by @Industrial Waste Grinder and a few others.

Wailing endlessly does fuckall to stop the SJWs from shoehorning themselves into your hobbies. If you want for stuff like this to stop, you become an activist and campaign against them. This has been somewhat effective everywhere people bothered to lift their asses to boycott. There was the whole Gilette advert thingy that ended costing them 8 billions.

My point was video games don't matter because they're toys but if you think they do you should go make your opinion heard by the companies that are making these decisions. Don't sit around bitching into the void. Kiwi Farms has zero cultural relevance outside of the lives of people who post here and the people discussed here.

Disagree. A huge amount of research material on lolcow and internet-drama analysis videos on YouTube all comes from here because the KF is the only true (and honest) repository of documentation of those subjects.

We just never get credited because we also laugh publicly at freaks.

It doesn't all have to be boycotts, review bombs, refunds, and lawsuits; those are just the most effective weapons, in the same way an artillery shell is more effective than a 9mm bullet at attacking a fortified base. Both tools have their place.

However, every such incursion should be loudly and obnoxiously objected to. Raising a stink on social media is free, and it hits companies in the reputation they claim to care about. It stresses out the pozzed community managers, it floods their inboxes with bad feedback, and it causes crisis meetings for people who imagine their jobs are comfortably safe. I don't care how minor the issue, like Sarkessian said, point it all out all of the time. Not because you're angry enough to boycott the game, but because you want the people who followed Anita's advice 10 years ago to get hit with the same deluge of bullshit they've been aiming at you.

I don't think this can be hammered in enough. Apathy is a huge reason why shit like this still happens. People shrugging it off and going "Well, it's just a line of dialogue or two, what's the harm?" despite media in general being halfway down the slippery slope already. Whenever this type of thing goes on, no matter how tiny, make a ruckus. Shit all over it and put down anyone that supports it or goes for the "It's not a big deal" non-argument. Basically do anything short of something actually illegal and make the devs/writers/translators not even want to open up Twitter anymore.
