It's not actually a bad argument. Considering that the prosecution/cops even mentioned it when it doesn't help their case suggests there are cases where not doing that bit them in the ass. It's really common to wobble something down based on technicalities like that.

That said I'm more confused than I was before hearing several lawyers arguing about it and forget whether 25 grams is actually a relevant threshold for anything in this case. I thought it was for the weapons thing.

Just for fun, I grabbed a kitchen scale to test a theory. It's digital and lowest unit is 1 gram, so not very precise compared to whatever the cops had measuring out to 2 decimal places. I also couldn't find any proper dime bags. However:

1 quart size ziploc baggie = 5 grams
3 baggies close to dime size: 1 gram

So if the threshold winds up mattering, I'd say it's a pretty good bet to demand that precision measurement.
