I think you're right about this and that part of the whole story awoke a "B.S." response from me as well. Not once in his story did it ever seem that Kayla or Aaron had anything more special than friends that bang. The most romantic thing he brings up is the snow angels story which is more silly fun than some deeply romantic thing. If you heard the same stories but without the foreknowledge of them sleeping with one another or Aaron having stated feelings, you'd pretty much come to the conclusion that he's Kayla's shoulder to cry on. 80% of the time it was her complaining about Nick or fighting him, 10% keeping Aaron busy while Nick and April do more lines, and about 10% sex and flirting, not scientific numbers mind you, but from his stories about what was going on it seems to be the case.

Where's the dinners, nights out alone, the getaways, hell even doing non-romantic stuff like going to Six Flags or the Zoo or something. There's no mention of genuine bonding at all outside of sitting in the bedroom all day while she complains about Nick.
