I've never in my life seen an in-line breaker or fuse in a western home. That's retarded. We use breakers and GFCIs most frequently as a safety feature in western homes which protects from the two most common electrical faults: ground faults (i.e. no ground or bad ground) and unexpected loads.Safety culture is a real thing. Even though plenty of people in US are dumbasses who don't shut off their circuit breakers or fuse box before working on live electrical, at least some electrician or engineer had the foresight to install a breaker or fuse in the circuit 5-10 years ago, because that's the standard practice. In India, you know they didn't bother with that precaution, and so you end up with those mass electrocution incidents.
Electrical lines on power poles are insulated, use huge fuses, are standardized, kept spaced apart, and have different safety criteria based on the load being carried. We put our massive high-voltage power lines often in fields far away from high traffic areas. Pajeet puts his high voltage on the power line touching every other line in the middle of Delhi.
In the US, you might have a 240V appliance back feeding into your electrical panel. Big ouchie but not likely to kill you. In India your 750Kw main line is... Uh I think it's here somewhere.
