2. The appliances have mechanisms to avoid catastrophes like fuses, voltage regulators, and the entire FUCKING place has a switchboard circuit breakers to shut off when a nasty case of electrical failure occurs.
3. A child cannot operate a stovetop without parents teaching. They can't even fucking reach it most of the time. For lighters, a child will not be strong enough to crank start one. A bit of flame at worst would result in tears and a bad burn spot.
4. Dangerous chemicals like bleach are housed in special bottles that are very hard to open as a child. You have to push the cap down and use a lot of force.

[1]: Prenatal cocaine exposure causes a kid to have developmental issues.
Data are equivocal regarding the long-term consequences of prenatal exposure to cocaine on school-aged children. We compared 101 children exposed prenatally to cocaine with 130 unexposed children on measures of intelligence, visual motor, and motor abilities at age 7 years. Bivariate analyses revealed that cocaine-exposed children scored significantly lower than comparison children on the abbreviated Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition Verbal and Full Scale IQ scores, the Visual Motor Integration and Motor Coordination standardized scores, and the Bruininks-Oseretsky Fine Motor Composite score. Regression analyses indicated that the biological mother’s vocabulary and home environment assessed at the same 7-year visit were stronger predictors of developmental outcome than prenatal drug exposure. Level of cocaine exposure, however, predicted visual motor and motor skills. The results indicate that although prenatal cocaine exposure may confer some degree of developmental disadvantage in the visual motor domain, it frequently occurs in the context of an inadequate rearing environment, which may be a stronger determinant than prenatal cocaine exposure of children’s outcome.

The incidence of unsuspected, passive cocaine exposure in ill infants seeking medical care primarily through an emergency service may be as high as 1 in 3 to 6 infants from our predominantly inner city population. Current immunoassay methods, specific for BE, and their routine threshold of detection (200 to 300 ng/mL) may not be sensitive enough to detect cocaine and BE in the urine samples of children younger than 1 year of age who are exposed passively. The development of upper and lower respiratory symptoms is correlated significantly with positive urine results in this study. The increased use of health care resources correlated with passive cocaine exposure in this sample may serve as an indirect marker for the increased medical needs of these infants.

Controlled for confounding variables, cocaine exposure had significant effects on cognitive development, accounting for a 6-point deficit in Bayley Mental and Motor Scales of Infant Development scores at 2 years, with cocaine-exposed children twice as likely to have significant delay (mental development index <80) (odds ratio, 1.98; 95% confidence interval, 1.21-3.24; P = .006). For motor outcomes, there were no significant cocaine effects.
