Sony hate thread

The PS5 is as successful as it is solely because of the PS4. If people went by hardware and software value they'd either buy a Series X or Steam Deck/PC.
When I installed my disc copy of Resident Evil 7 on my Xbox it was upgraded for free. Sony wants 20$ out of me for their upgrade....
Microsoft lets me buy a lot of Xbox & 360 titles digitally. Sony requires PS+ membership for most of their legacy titles.
The PS5 is a good console but it really shouldn't be outdoing the Xbox Series X/S. It's a shame console gamers finally got great performance in their boxes but zero exclusives :/

What amazes me the most is how a retard unable to do menus like Cuckman ended up taking over one of the biggest money printing studios for Sony and drive it into the ground so savagely? Why was he not told to fuck off or sacked? Was it little hat privilege, what?
You'd be surprised but it's hard in software to find good leaders and even just identifying those who are interested and capable of leading a team is hard.

So if you play your cards right and state that you want to go into a lead role early in your career you can be given opportunities to develop those skills surprisingly early. If you get lucky and assigned to a successful project it ends up looking really good for you, if I had to guess this is what happened for Cuckmann -- he had the right attitude and a bit of luck, maybe at just the right moment when there was a bit of churn.

I think there is more to this pivot to narrative based games. It may have to do with a brain drain as it requires more people to create assets and in a narrative based they can create a corridor, reuse some assets and keep design minimal. I don't think it reduces budget though, Hellblade 2 was a commercial failure but pricey and took 6 fucking years. GOW2 as well you could tell they were rushing because there were so many areas that were there purely to save dev time. I think they are nowhere near a TLOU3 announcement and honestly I don't think it would even do well when you have to really tally sales vs cost.

I think too Sony have tried to wrangle FromSoftware for exclusivity and that is why they are not releasing Bloodborne purely out of spite. They tried a lot to make Elden Ring exclusive but they were denied. It feels very headless chickens currently.

I also think thry burned their bridges with TLOU2. It sold purely on goodwill (and probably still not as well as they hoped) and got blasted by users.

TLOU2 only sold 10m after sitting in the bargain bins for four years. They're definitely not making TLOU3 after that.

I feel like you underestimate just how stupid Sony can be when it comes to throwing good money after bad. It would be in character for them to make TLOU3 out of spite towards their supposed audience and be surprised to see it lose money.

They probably will, the TV show allegedly did well. I just expect TLOU3 to do even worse than TLOU2, and they'll probably try to keep the budget on the lower end of the AAA spectrum to account for that.

Viking muh mentals the game is a flop? Seems like it came out like 7 days ago. I obviously give 0 shits about it, but is it already looking like a failure?
The first game might have been a cute little AA experiment but making the second take a lot more to make and giving it the AAA treatment meant it will be judged by AAA standards which it cannot match.

HB2 is such a failure that even the graphics whores aren't praising it.
Imagine making consoles more expensive than ever to push hardware to appeal to graphicsfags, only for them to be uninterested in the slop

LOL, LMAO even

Noticed more discussion about this on the XBox thread and couldn't have happened to nicer people.

Best I can say is that it seem to prove that JF is innocent since clearly his potato wife was used as a face model for the main character.

Exactly, graphics have made games more expensive and slower to produce than ever. The reason why everyone says that there are no games is because every game has to have the best graphics and that means half a decade of development. And graphics are a sucker 's game. They take a big amount of time and money, the end result might be realistic but not necessarily pretty to look at, you can only make them as real as reality and in a few years, everyone will talk about how bad they look. Just look at the first Gears of War: Once praised for its graphics and now everyone says it looks like ass. No pretty enviroments, only browns and greys. Better go the stylised art style route as then, the game will always look at least somewhat good. Cheaper and faster to make too.

It doesn’t help that every game pushing for hyper-realistic graphics just blends together in the memory. Easy example, it’s been… God only knows how many years, but I can still remember and occasionally want to replay Okami, almost solely off of its art style. Granted Weeb Shit also runs into “everything blurs together and looks similar”, just at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Then again, the last game I remember having a distinct enough art style that it stood out was Cuphead, and with how hard it filtered/embarrassed Journo’s and how parasitically they’re attached to the industry, maybe they’ve spread to their consultancy friends that people don’t actually want art styles. It sounds retarded, but so are Journo’s.

nah, people have been shitting on "brown and bloom" even back then, it was a notorious meme because everyone was using ue3 which made it look worse and started to ape it.
gears "style" as in roided dudes running through bombed out cities in big bulky armor still holds up, you don't need 4k AAAA textures for that. style isn't just the "stylized" stuff like WoW people tend to think off first. just look at this and tell me this wouldn't still generate hype these days:

doesn't help "art style" these days is some cal-arts abomination, maybe dreamworks-smirk if you go 3d.

Aside from the bar of 'good graphics' getting higher and higher as the years go by, a big reason for there being 'no games' on PS5 is because the barrier to entry of game development has never been lower. If someone wants to make a game, team or no team, all they need is a PC with the right software and time to make it. Then they can just submit it to Steam or wherever for a price they think is fair and then just let it get played. That wasn't an option until the mid-2000s and PC gaming only started gaining momentum in the mid-2010s, which is right around when the console game selection started to get a little light.

Combining that with the rise of mobile phone gaming at around the same time, the demand and desire to make games for consoles dwindled. Even though the job market for gaming got really competitive after 2000, studios weren't held to making things for consoles unless they were multi-platform. If the only option for making a game was to go work at a big studio subsidiary then there would be a HELL of a lot more of them getting made. Faster, too.
