Games Journalism General

It's really hard to overstate how few people know how to competently self-host. The fact that all major hosting platforms are incredibly pozzed significantly harms freedom of information and the average person's ability to publish.
Do you intended to help him self host null or host his list in the farms?

Sounds like a market opportunity for an ideological motivated internet autist who knows how internet architecture and hosting works.

Wix has taken down @SmashJT's website for Kotaku Identified, a blog which tracked games journalists who moved on from Kotaku including to video game development. They've mass-reported his blog for privacy invasions, so Wix stole his domain and the archive of his entire blog.
It's so interesting isn't it? The response to this and Sweet Baby. They fear transparency. But why don't they want you to know where they have been? They're afraid of you. If you knew you might stop consuming. The course has been clear to me for years now: starve the beast. Stop buying games.

Gaming and journalism should never be in the same sentence. They’ve already convinced me, on an individual basis, not to buy any new games, anyway.
It’s a pity how many people gave them money as kids.
Can’t believe it’s now 2024 and I’m still praying on the complete dissolution of Kotaku. Though I guess it’s like Buzzfeed and College Humor, those trashy leftist “news” sites will never truly die they’ll just keep putting out filler rage bait into the void that is the Internet until the last starving employee leaves.
It is funny seeing them go down the drain. Almost all of them are dead or dying now. Sadly they’ve gone on to infect new hosts.

Can ISP’s even legally shut down websites that host non-illegal content?

I don’t know how these dead websites are able to support the costs of maintaining their sites and paying their writers/contributors. They must be getting prop money from some massive news corp.
They get bailouts and funding from leftist orgs and political affiliates to post fluffer pieces or smear campaigns against whoever fits the narrative (that’s just the truth of it). If it wasn’t for those two components then I doubt many of these sites would still exist outside of “which Disney character is your dad’s generation on Halloween” Quiz no 275. I can count on more than one hand people who have left buzzfeed and the times buzzfeed/CH has been bankrupt and making employees redundant.

ETA in relation to Kotaku specifically feminist frequency and gamergate played a large part in their “success” (more like infamy) and although that was over a decade ago now, video games have gotten more politically motivated (recent example being on the happenings page currently) so I can only assume that’s why Kotaku is still kicking. Ngl, I haven’t seen anything Kotaku in years so who knows if they’re as predatory as they used to be.

Some snapshots of the site were saved.

The Kotaku Detected page was archived but the images are missing.

Maybe the Internet Archive would have something but it's currently getting hit with an unrelated DDoS attack.

He should post all his info in this thread.
Working for Kotaku then joining The Games Industry? You'd think someone would be proud of such an illustrious career.
If they were such great journalists with nothing to hide, they should be proud of their resume. It’s almost like they’re aware of the quality of their work.

But tracking anyone who streams the wizard game is A-OK guys! And Alyssa Mercante keeping a list of any youtuber who ever made a negative video about her, specifically asking her simps to dig up dirt on them and contacting SmashJT's wife and telling her he's a horrible person is also fan-dabbie-dozy!

Seriously, Mercante needs a lolcow thread and she needs it yesterday.
If she ever does get one here's some info for it: https://kiwifarms.st/threads/games-journalism-general.56282/page-165#post-18393123

Oh God, Nick Calandera is dangerously close to Yahtzee. Is he going to go full woke as well? He already showed signs of it with his Hogwarts Legacy review, but even he has to realise that going woke would fucking destroy his whole brand of being a cynical misanthropic bastard. If Yahtzee goes woke then stop the planet and let me off right now.
If he goes woke it just goes to show marriage and kids destroyed him

I'd back that idea @Null has kept this site running in an extremely hostile environment time and time again and it would be interesting getting a "How To" guide from him on the subject.
That only seems like it'd benefit people who deplatformed him and want to deplatform even more people. The amount of people Null could describe the process to without risking them being an undercover fag (who would share the method with bad people so they can figure out how to thwart it) could be counted on one hand.

This just shows that Kotaku is far worse than Vice and Buzzfeed combined. It’s this kind of destroying actual free speech online that anyone can read about them that actually harms not just freedom of information, but the discourse that is created because of it.

It’s more concerning that taking down this kind of information makes them think that it won’t come back to harm them once their site stops being funded indefinitely.

It sure does sound like they have something to be ashamed of, now why would they want people to forget that they worked at Kotaku. If they done real journalism they should've been proud about working there. Besides I'm sure that nothing embarrassing would come up if you search what articles the authors worked on.
