Barnes wants everything to be a law-altering constitutional question- because that's the type of law he practices, and the kind of cases he gets involved with.

That said, I have no objection to a lawyer looking for any thread that MIGHT get his client out of trouble- that's what a lawyer is supposed to do. Barnes' approach are the things he sees form his area of practice that he could go after. Unfortunately, those arguments are unlikely to get anywhere in a practical scenario - Barnes is used to unlimited time and money situations, Nick, as wealthy as he is, does not have pockets THAT deep, and by the time we get to most of the constitutional arguments, Nick will be out of money, his life and his kids wrecked, and what's left of his reputation smashed. Barnes means well, but he wants it to be an issue in his area too badly.

That said, challenging the search warrant may be his only out, and I'd expect a lawyer to hit that point as hard as possible, but based on what I'm hearing from Legal Mindset's read of the search warrant affadavit today, it doesn't look good to my layman's eyes.

From a personal standpoint, the legal outcome isn't the important part. The best thing for the kids is for their parents to get clean, and get back to taking care of their kids. Honestly, I could care less if Nick never streams again as long as the kids are taken care of. Sadly, considering that BOTH parents are compromised, they are likely going to be severely impacted for YEARS to come.

As much as I'd like Nick to get off = that's predicated on him getting his shit together afterwards. My fear is that he somehow get through this avoiding heavy consequences, he'll just go back to being a degenerate junkie. Not knowing anything aside from what's come out so far- maybe he needs to spend some time in the slam or in a mandated program. If he keeps going the way he's going, he may do something stupid in front of the judge that gets him hard time- and that would just be sad.

This is a good point. I don’t want to recommend parentifying kids, but I was a Gen X kid neglected by degen boomers, and my siblings and I fed ourselves, cleaned the house and did laundry by age 12. So if there are teens unable to fend for themselves at all in dire circumstances, the shitty parenting has been going on for a while.

Please note, I am not blaming the kids, and they shouldn’t have to do it, but part of raising kids is teaching them to be self sufficient.
