And I just don't get it, she has moved into her own apartment and is fortunate to be able to afford it on her own (albeit with some grifting but I digress). She could easily make her place exactly the way she wants it, could focus on her health, both physically and mentally, and really turn her life around. But we all know that isn't going to happen.
My understanding is that, after she finally got surgery to repair a fractured ankle, she didn't wear the cobbled-together boot made to accommodate her fatness because it wasn't comfortable. Instead, she just wrapped her ankle in Ace bandages. So it didn't heal properly, and now she claims the screws in it cause her so much pain she can only stand for a short time and take a few steps.
In defense of Evie, there are some studies suggesting moon boots might make things worse, although admittedly I forget the reasons why. I'll look up the articles in the morning.

At night she didn’t even do that, just let it flop around on the bed. The whole point of casting the foot is to stop movement so the bones can bridge with the thread of the screws. Any movement interrupts that healing. I can attest that it’s fucking uncomfortable either cast or in a boot. The benefit of the cam boot (moon boot) is it firstly can be removed (for showering or if approved for sleep), and secondly you can weight-bear in them because of the shape of the very thick sole. Also, can get ones with adjustable air bladders that you can inflate/deflate with swelling during the day. Generally, for the kind of surgery Evie had, the orthopaedic surgeon would have put her in a backslab plaster while she was under anaesthesia, then two weeks later had the foot and lower leg cast (non-weight bearing, then after six weeks in that allowed a moon boot and gradual return to weight bearing. With scans between each step. The makeshift splints Evie described sounded like a backslab, and the bandaging on those is not supposed to be removed.

Evie is definitely 14 different kinds of not right in the head, but the bed-shitting was primarily due to her extreme fatness making it logistically impossible for her to use a bedpan.
Additionally, Medicaid will only cover a limited selection of frames, and a lot of them are kind of ugly, in my experience. The very cheapest frames available from online retailers like Zenni tend to be hideous, too. Evie's already limited frame options are likely further curtailed by her enormous fat head.
