I can see this happening. 5 year old is old enough to internalize a routine and know when the time for a shower is IF THEIR PARENTS HAMMERED IT IN THEIR CONSCIOUSNESS by following strict routine for years. This is not completely outrageous, the outrageous part is what I said, having the ability to maintain consistent routine without interruptions for so long that the kids actually get programed with it. So yes, this is possible, but it is an extraordinary exception - not the rule.

Also 5 year olds can bathe themselves but it usually involves a parent helping them out, giving them towels, clothes, fixing proper water temperature, and leaving a kid in the bath for a bit. Then they check if kid washed properly, and help him out of the bath so kid doesn't slip and hit his head or whatever, wrap him in a towel and let him get dressed on their own.

Exactly, and it's basically just them going through the motions. They still need guidance and supervision for a lot longer then that. Most kids I know weren't allowed to take care of their bathing independently until like 11-12 years old, and even then, most kids need to be told to go shower or clean themselves up well into their late teens.
