I closed my eyes briefly, only to reopen them in disbelief at what my daughter uttered next.

"Does this mean democracy is dead, Daddy?"

I sighed heavily, trying to find the right words. "No," I replied, "Democracy has been in a casket for a while now. Today, they've just cremated the remains."

We both shed tears as we sought solace in reading the Daily Wire and watching Ben Shapiro's commentary.

You're replying to someone who thinks John Q. Public ever treated Trump as anything other than a pop media spectacle. Nobody is going to die for that guy. And if people aren't willing to die for something then it either continues to be the status quo (most likely scenario) or gets changed, eventually, at a glacial pace.

People need to just accept that Trump played politics and politics happened to him. This is like getting upset when your junkie relative gets involved with street gangs and ends up shot to death. What were you expecting? Stay away from that stuff, you'll live a fulfilling life. You won't "change politics" any more then you will change drug dealers or murderous criminals.

I'm at a point where I expect the world to burn, no matter who wins in November. I really have doubts the guilty verdict will change much in the grand scheme of things and will likely still be too close to call.

I'm not even a MAGA guy, but this feels like defeatist cope to me. The way history usually goes is nothing happens for years, then everything happens all at once. Whether Trump wins or loses, the matter in which it happens probably won't be boring due to how its been set up.

If nobody did anything in 2020 when the election looked sketchy then they won't do it today. People don't spontaneously form standing armies when things get bad, they turn inward and try to stay away from it while being as self-sufficient as possible. "Don't be a hero" is a phrase for a reason.
