The topic of Brianna lying about her degree is still being discussed. One of the interesting things that came out is that Brianna claims he was just missing a math class. Someone comments that the math requirements for a journalism degree are not high and basically is just a statistics class.

Now, Brianna constantly claims to be a software engineer. I think this is much more egregious than her claims of having a degree in journalism. Ignoring the fact that there are actual laws against claiming to be an engineer when you don't have real credentials (not sure about Mass), getting a degree in software engineering requires extensive math. This typically includes: a year of calculus (up to vector calculus), a year of physics with calculus, and differential equations.

Counterpoints, who now has zero credibility due to his insane defense of Brianna's lies, says that Brianna has enough college credits that it's not an extreme stretch to claim to have a degree. But he has zero qualifications for claiming to be a software engineer, especially when the one class he claims prevented him from graduating is a fucking basic math class.

This is unfortunately true, and titles in the tech industry are basically meaningless due to everyone's desire to call themselves an engineer. There is an actual software engineering degree though to provide a standard definition. I know people without one who could easily test out of 90% of the classes based on self-study and experience. Brianna couldn't test out of intro to computer science.

This is such a strange defense. We don't know what degree he has but we know what college credits he has? So that's reason to assume a degree?

No, it's fucking not. It is incredibly easy to amass huge amounts of college credits but never graduate. Go to the nearest college campus and start grabbing people people who look like upperclassmen, within minutes you'll find someone who has enough numerical credits to graduate but they aren't allocated properly. College students are downright awful at reading the requirements of their degrees and taking only the classes they need. Degrees aren't given by "take whatever you want in the department" it's more like "pick one of these, the rest don't count." Idiots like John, especially ones who hang around for a decade, are even more so awful at this. I have little doubt John kept taking random ass classes just to hang around. This wouldn't even count the ones he probably kept failing and had to retake.

If he has a degree John can have the university certify that he has a degree, he can blur the name so he doesn't have to show it says John Walker Flynt. Hell, just blur John Walker, he's already told everybody his "maiden" name is Flynt.

But of course, we know that he can't, because a kiwi already did the legwork and confirmed he never graduated from Ole Miss or Millsaps. So he'll just obfuscate the truth like he always does and hope that people stop asking questions.

Honestly, better late than never that someone besides us is actually bothering to press him on his mountain of lies. Would be nice if this had happened a decade ago, but I guess we wouldn't have gotten so much entertainment out of him making such a fool of himself if he hadn't been able to lie as long as he has.

American higher education is so fucking weird. Like in the UK you just literally do your degree and maybe get like two optional modules from a limited set, and your degree is the average minus your lowest from each year

Going to university to do mechanical engineering with a side in feminist art therapy is such a bizarre system. Is it just a way to grift more student loan money?

More or less. If you're smart you take classes that will help bolster your degree and help you get additional expertise. Problem is, these are the same institutions that offer worthless degrees like "Oppression Studies" and "Intersectional Feminism". Employers used to not give a shit what your degree was in as long as you had a 4 year degree since they assumed that that meant you were at least intelligent enough to have completed the coursework. Now, depending on the job there's becoming more of a desire to look for people with industry appropriate certifications. Mainly because those certs are expensive as hell to take the test for and they show a bare minimum level of competency.
