I blame the shitty economy but fuck potluck. I work a lot of hours and remaining time is with family so no, I don’t have time to make something for your shitty meeting. “It doesn’t matter if you get it from the store, just bring something!” I’m coming directly from work, I don’t have time to get something. It’s just less hassle to skip the potluck altogether. However, due to said shitty economy, I’m seeing more and more potlucks.

For the thread tax: one of the ripple effects of the pandemic was how very few businesses in my area remained open late or even 24 hours. There used to be numerous 24-hour Walgreens and Walmarts within driving distance to me, and it was a real lifesaver to be able to buy tools at 2 AM when there was a home emergency. Now, the only stores open past 11 PM near me are gas stations and a single CVS location. We used to have several 24-hour supermarkets near me as well, and now post-pandemic they close at 10 PM.
