IDK, parents can be weird around food overall. I think FAs can exaggerate when food and parenting get involved, but also parental weirdness can really affect a kid.
Neither here nor there, but I believe my mom has an actual ED and projected it.
I was a bog-standard normal weight until I was 17, and yet she would glare at me and ask if I “really needed” seconds from her small portions she plated. And in school, occasionally ice cream was sold in hot weather. Less than $1. I had to decide if I wanted to get the ice cream party with everyone else and miss lunch at the end of the month, or not get one when everyone else did. Talking small commercial cups of vanilla, made no weight difference. Then if I was out of lunch money, she would snap “you can stand to miss a meal.” If I got extra food somewhere and got caught, she’d rip it out of my hands.
I’ve had to learn about the processed food and service and meat processing industries to change my diet, and still prefer to eat for volume.
