This is good to know. I've been trying to see if I could find any news articles about it but it has to be done by hand because Morton Plant Mease hospital is in Pinellas County and just happens to be near the end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway so any search on news sites or Google almost always points back to the causeway. I think it's a way to console the donor's family and "reassure" (for lack of a better word) that they're making a good decision. The whole concept of brain dead is hard to take on when your loved one is still in front of you, warm and breathing with a heart beat. Sometimes they even squeeze your hand. Then when it comes time to harvest the organs, your loved one is still alive; they're going to be cut open while they're still breathing, and great chunks of flesh are going to be hacked out of them while they still have a pulse. The worst thing is that everyone knows about the one in a million story where that lass in the next state spent twenty years in a coma, and just magically woke up one day despite the doctors saying that she'll always be a vegetable. Maybe the doctors are wrong and your loved one just needs a little more time?

It is beyond fucked up when you actually get right into the nitty gritty of it. So these hospitals have come up with the whole "walk of honour" thing... putting a noble spin on something that is not merely tragic, but a decision that is incredibly easy to doubt and second guess. On the one hand you could see it as comforting for the donor's family. Acknowledgement of the battle if you will. On the other, it's insanely manipulative.

A “walk of honor” for organ donation sounds excessive to me, personally. It’s like giving someone a parade every time they donate to a charity, only the donor can’t even process all the praise showered on them.

She directly accuses Chris’s girlfriend of murdering him with a fentanyl laced cigarette (and is mad at paramedics for not administering narcan after he had no oxygen to his brain for several minutes). He hadn’t even drank alcohol for months. It was intentional on girlfriend’s part! It had to be! Police are investigating, so stay tuned!

Despite dying from a fentanyl overdose, he was still eligible to donate organs. His kidneys were definitely determined to be healthy enough. His skin and “tissues” may be salvageable too.

But enough about Chris. Polissa has more pressing needs. She is also furious at the US government because she couldn’t rent a car to get to Florida with Josh on her own. A friend loaned her the money for a rental car and a hotel in Clearwater. Asks people to send money to pay for those and other travel expenses. Someone already donated $100. Everything is appreciated!

She has admitted numerous times not only to the multiple car accidents but also that she has debt collectors after her. She couldn’t even get CareCredit when Gomez was at the vet. Wonder if “Izaak” is the friend they’re staying with. Joh and Polly have as prolific a history of destroying friendships as they do property. A terminal wean is hard to watch, but the monkey part of your brain sees your loved one die in front of you, so it's not like there's any question about it happening.

Organ harvest takes the person off to surgery in their bed, just like any other time, except this is the end. Having a little ceremony helps differentiate it, and you're following them like you're walking them down the aisle.

I personally don't enjoy the Walk of Honor through the hallways on an emotional level, but I think the idea is sound. It's not a surprise to the other units on the way to the OR. Hospitals tend to pass the news in huddle, so the hallways along the route can be cleared of obstacles, staff can muster, and patient doors closed if it goes through a patient area.
