The popularity of vtubers is pretty distressing. When I became aware of them, I kinda coped for some time assuring myself that it couldn't be what I thought it was at first blush. But no. Lolicon 'jokes' have always existed even way before the Wild West era of the Internet during the 2000s. They pre-date the internet and arguably anime itself due to that Lolita novel being made way back then.
I remembered all Pedobear and Chris Hansen memes that circulated around imageboards, YT comments and forums but they at least always had the punchline of having the nonce get his comeuppance every now and then.
But I feel like with the way people use (((edgy humor))) these days to try make their actions seem funny or totally-not-serious as an excuse, it really makes me think we degraded as a society more than what's obvious.
