For these sorts of offenses, the court doesn't really care if he shows up because they will just automatically find him guilty. They care more that he eventually pays the fine he owes. If you don't pay your fines, in many places they will eventually issue a "bench warrant" for you which means that if you get stopped by a police officer for any reason, you get a trip to the jail to think over what you are doing.

The way I read that, she isn't getting any help, she no longer gets along with her family and she is going to blindly follow Nick no matter what it costs her. She is still a full-on addict like Nick and jail didn't cause her to take one step back.

These are all signs that the whole situation is going to get a whole lot worse now.

When addicts have been to jail and are not scared by jail anymore, everything starts going down the drain faster. Kayla loves drugs more than she loves her own children and that isn't going to change.

He’s aping the cadence of a stand-up comic. Part of doing stand-up is finding a rhythm to how you speak in order to create and subsequently release the tension in the room, which is what prompts people to laugh. It’s why people can laugh at comedy that in itself isn’t actually funny.
I forget who (it might have been Norm), but there’s a comic who was talking about a guy on stage at a small-time show being familiar; and it was pointed out that the guy used to be the bouncer at the club. The bouncer’s jokes weren’t great, but he figured out the rhythm of how to say them from watching the other comics at the place where he could get some laughs. Nick is in this exact scenario right now, which is why his cadence seems to have shifted so far.

That being said, he still has probably given himself actual brain damage.

Signal is fairly serious about privacy, so if the messages have been deleted, they won't be recoverable.

Smiling emphasizes eye bags. It’s not magic.

It's the smiling and the lighting. On the first pic, his eyebrows (and associated skull) are casting shadows down from the room light, and that's getting washed out by the TV and whatever side light is there.

In the second pic, his head is slightly tilted back, and the smile is pushing out the bags, so the overhead lighting is catching them bags.
