I want to see the world jake lives in. He is either completely insane, too stupid to put his pants on, or reporting from a different universe.
ALERT, ALL CARD-CARRIERS
jake has cracked the code!
it's true: hate groups recruit almost exclusively from tumblr fanshipping communities.
Azov Battalion got its start from a big argument over whether it was okay for the gems in steven universe to smooch, most of the charlottesville torch marchers were people upset about Reylo, and Order of the Nine Angles began as a Spock/Kirk fanart post with 666,000 notes.
Why recruit from MMA gyms or disaffected lonely dudes playing fps when you can just harvest the true elite soldiers of violence: fat millenial tumblr addicts hung up on romance between cartoon characters
What do you get for the card? Discounts on tiki torches? Hugo Boss gift certificates? A free lampshade?I've always wondered something about the card-carrying Nazis of Jake's imagination. Who issues these cards, and are there membership benefits?
Kill four and the other 5,999,996 are free.Kill four jews and the 5th is free!
Not a HuwhiteCard for the Un-PC-Engine? I’m out.Kill four and the other 5,999,996 are free.
Most people don't know this, but "The Card" actually doubles as a HuCard for the PC-Engine, or "TurboGrafx 16" as it was called in the States. It has a few Wehrmacht-themed reskins of popular games, most notably including the only release of "Sonik die Blitzkriegstacheligel".
And yes, the Jaketendo will play it.
Probably the same organizations that arranges those mandatory courses on racism & discrimination in the workplace. If you do well enough you get the card.I've always wondered something about the card-carrying Nazis of Jake's imagination. Who issues these cards, and are there membership benefits?
I didn't actually read this but making sure the images were right I did read a bit and I love Jake so much:Violet Hargrave said:Well, it happened again! The other day I was sitting in a discord server, someone was mentioning the number of trans girl henchmen in Japanese media in the ‘90s, and someone else decided to get all argumentative about it, because one of the examples given was Fish’s Eye from the 4th season of Sailor Moon and “Fisheye identifies as male.” I was going to let that slide, because I didn’t want to get into a huge argument over a thing like that and I already wrote the blog post above which covers my feelings on this pretty well, but hey, someone just reblogged it so I have this handy button to share it again, and I’m taking that as a sign, or something.
So first off, yeah, I’m absolutely calling BS on the idea of Fisheye being a cis guy. To be clear, this is the character in question:
This is not how a character who “identifies as male” gets dressed up on a day to day basis. This is how someone who is all about super girly vibes gets dressed up on a day to day basis.
Now once again, you’d think if there were any confusion here, it’d be people assuming she was a cis girl. And there’s a fair bit of muddling to the conversation here because the old '90s Cloverway dub, and various other localizations around the world, edited around a few key scenes and rewrote some dialog to present her as a cis girl, just like DiC did with Zoicite back in the first season. And we can also maybe get into the weeds arguing whether Fisheye was technically assigned male at birth when her origin story is the major villain of the arc turning whatever animals were lying around into a new villain team, and having previously been a fish, technically she hatched rather than being born. Whatever. Nobody these days seems to question the AMAB (AMAH?) angle, just making arguments that this is not someone who pretty consciously made the decision to gal it up… really basically immediately upon becoming humanoid.
Some people, I’ve seen trying to claim she’s just “bishonen,” the whole thing you get in Japanese media where you have characters who are inarguably male, just you know, pretty. Smooth skin, long hair, snappy dressers. You know the sort.
But no dice here. Bishonen characters just kinda naturally look that way. It’s not any sort of conscious choice. Fisheye is explicitly throwing on the heels and the sundresses and the makeup and jewelry and all, very plainly intentionally presenting hyperfeminine.
The next bit of weird stubbornness is to then insist she’s “a drag queen.” And again, no. Drag is a performance thing. You totally do have perfectly cis guys putting on big wigs and girly dresses, getting up on stage, and singing or lip-syncing to songs about female empowerment and such and yeah that doesn’t actually make them women. But you know, the whole “on stage” thing is kinda key to that. It’s performance art. Fisheye’s in full girl mode at all times. That’s not drag.
And of course double checking that I’m getting her name in its generally agreed-upon form (I also see Fish’s Eye a lot and all) I came across some even weirder angles, like someone claiming there’s no way to tell if she’s trans or a gay guy without seeing her genitals and… no really where the absolute hell does that thought come from? And here’s a bunch of people bandying about weird speculative slurs, and of course, the four letter T-word.
Speaking of slurs, the one thing that does seem to give people pause is when someone points out that in Sailor Moon stage musicals, there are absolutely songs referring to her with transphobic slurs… at which point the general public seems to agree that OK yeah in any adaptations where people are using transphobic slurs she’s “probably” a trans girl, but that she only “probably” is in those adaptations. Not the mainline series, where, you know, the other villains say awful things about her being some kind of weird freak who dresses like a woman and goes out hitting on guys all the time, without explicitly using dehumanizing slurs, you know, because it’s a children’s show and all.
And yeah. Again, I’m reiterating my point from the original post above, but if you find yourself refusing to acknowledge a character is a trans woman unless someone’s actively referring to her with slurs, maybe take a moment to reflect on your hang-ups?
And you know, since I did mention the character in passing, can we maybe talk a bit about Zoicite? The first character that dubs decided to just treat as a cis woman to avoid headaches? Because I watched this show on TV back in the day, and yup, girl. And then as an adult I watched the new dub that rolls that change back and… I dunno here.
Like anyone can have a ponytail, anyone can have a small frame, and anyone can have a suave green-haired boyfriend in a cape, but even with a manlier voice and people throwing around he and him, Zoicite still reads pretty damn femme to me. It’s not a slam dunk, but I’m pretty sure the nation of trans women still totally has casus belli on this one.
And while I’m at it, there is a solid case to argue for Sailor Uranus being nonbinary. Like, people creatively involved with the show have made bet-hedging comments there at the very least, and I swear when directly confronted on the question of gender she consistently just answers that she’s “not a guy.” Real she/they energy all around.
And to just get real out there onto the thin ice, can we talk about how like every single detail about Sailor Jupiter maps to a trans girl stereotype? Yeah, yeah, I get it. You’re a really tall girl with a hard time finding clothes, you recently made a big radical life shift and have to build up a new friend group from scratch, you’re all awkward with the stereotypical girly stuff, never been asked to dance, come off decidedly as The Gay One even though all your friends are explicitly bi, and you can’t walk down the street without some futch nonbinary badass and her girlfriend trying to talk you into a threesome? Yeah we all relate.
And then of course there’s these three.
They’ve all got this whole convoluted magical gender change disguise secretly more from space than how every other major character technically is thing and you’d figure just from that alone there’d be some major gender stuff going on but, yeah, OK, the one in the middle’s a real clearcut trans guy who spends like all of season 5 pretty aggressively trying to get into Sailor Moon’s pants but wow these other two are barely even characters and I couldn’t for the life of me tell you where they sit with their whole weird deal.
trans transphobia gatekeeping sailor moon so I used ankh as an example of a bishonen character because yeah cut and dry the actor who plays ankh though might have transitioned since? I am genuinely unclear need to find out sometime though in case I write about Kamen Rider OOO don't want to end up accidentally misgendering any actors you know?
Are they laminated?
Uh, they say DO NOT LAMINATE on them.Mine is.
It was too special to me to not laminate. I'm already a card-carrying Nazi now, what are they going to do, set the card-caring card-carrying Nazis after me?Uh, they say DO NOT LAMINATE on them.
Yeah but that's just our motto, it's like the "E Pluribus Unum" of Jakeheads.Uh, they say DO NOT LAMINATE on them.
Yeah but that's just our motto, it's like the "E Pluribus Unum" of Jakeheads.
I propose a design contest for "The Card".
Took me a minute, but I think it's trap.I’m still trying to figure out the four letter t slur. Tranny isn’t 4 letters. Troon isn’t 4 letters.
Who stamps your card? If I knew that I'd have to get a new card from all the stamps damnI get a little swastika stamp on my card every time I do a racism, when I collect 10 I get an acre of Lebensraum.
