As a reminder, John took advantage of his dad's military service in order to scam his way into USAA membership. In case you needed any more proof that this enlightened centrist pivot is anything but John's latest scam, his own words should be more than sufficient. John cares about nothing more than his own desires, and views other people only in the light of what they can personally do for him. John isn't grateful to his father for teaching him the importance of national security, he's just glad that he can save on his Porsches' insurance.

I can't find any info on whether a disowned child can still qualify for USAA membership (probably because nobody asks that question), but it seems they only care whether your parent was a vet, not whether or not you were disowned. So even if John's dad knows about it, I don't think there's anything he could do about it.
